spare on roof - lockable tie downs

Hi,
I'm thinking of strapping my spare tire to the (factory) roof rack on my 80 while overlanding.
i was looking for options and found these lockable tie downs. here's a little video too. has anyone ever used them?
what do you guys use to secure a spare to the roof?

We have these and they work well.

The problem is synching them down super tight to hold say... fuel cans. Sometimes they don't get tight enough. For a spare i would just use a standard ratchet strap and a cable lock.
