Default Tell me about a 60...

I see a whole lot of 80s but dont see a lot about the 60. Is there a site out there that can give me some ideas/ information about the truck. Im thinking about picking one up for an expo/ camping/ long distance/ daily driver rig. So, tell me a bit about them. Thanks

I had one in alaska for about a year - VERY COOL rig! THey look the part and have the good ole Toyota factor we all know and love. Problem is they are a bit primitive by todays standards. They are slow out of the gate, they lack a comfortable highway speed above 65 for more than 30 minutes (to me anyway) they are carburetored which introduces its own set of issues - again by todays standards. They LOVE gas too.

I am sure many a family made the trip from New York to Yellowstone back in the days of new FJ60's and did it without a problem. By way of comparison, an FZJ80 is a limo. and coil sprung. And fuel injected. And not much more $ than a nice '60.

You can buy a diesel 60 that is Canada spec'd and import to the states.

I get 14 MPG loaded to the gills at 6000LBS w/o my roof rack. I can get up to 80 MPH on the flats with my 5 speed. It is gutless trying to go uphill at freeway speeds. You often have to sit in 3rd gear at 45 MPH on long hills. It wheels nice tough.
