    Default receiver mount winch storage

Just wondering where and how you guys store your winch in your rigs while not in use. I have a rubbermaid container in the back of my liberty with a sand bag on each side and one in front (weight in the rear for traction, dump on the road if stuck, or use for wheel chocks while winching). All this leaves no good spot for the winch. I'm thinking my only option right now may be to build a custom storage box for the back.

Which winch are you running? A 8274 takes up a ton more space then say a M8000. No matter how you store it make sure it (as well as everything in your vehicle) is strapped down very well, you don't want that bouncing around and possibly hitting a passenger during a rollover.

    running a titan 10,000lbs winch (http://titanwinches.com/index.php?ac...od&productId=4)

    on champion receiver winch plate

Hitting someone in the head is exactly what I am trying to avoid.

Why not install it in the reciever mount, it is secure and out of the way?

lots of salt, sticks out far (bump into stuff and major loss in departure angles) and I can't open the tailgate with it installed.

sounds like alot of stuff to hit you in the head in a roll over.
I got a bottle of Aloe after getting sun burned. It says "apply Liberally"... I'm not sure if this means other people pay for it and I use it, or I am to force other people to use it even if they dont want to because it's what I think is right for them?

hence the point of this thread... Haven't done any serious wheeling in the KJ (yet) as I just got rid of my dedicated crawler this past spring and didn't get out much this summer. Now that I am going in the direction of an expo build on it I want to carry my gear and ensure it is safe and secure.

What kind of rig do you have this winch mounted to? The only drawback of that setup, is you can only pull in a straight line, as any slight angle puts allot of stress on the mounting system, and you can experience a failure of the mount.

Look at my first and second post. Jeep liberty (06) with a titan 10,000lbs winch on champion receiver mount winch plate. Haven't had any issues with it so far and the reason I am running it is I kept the winch off my rig when I sold it and I got the plate for free so I figure I might as well use it.

If you want to store inside, I would make mounting tabs thru the floor w/ grade 8 hardware. Simple enough.
OEM tie down points are probably only "grocery bag"- rated.

I think they have properly rated ratchet straps for heavy loads which you can use to tie down the winch to your new, heavy duty tie down points.
