    Default WTB: '01-'04 Tacoma

I've scoured all of Craigslist west of the Rockies, but I'm still having a hard time finding a replacement truck for my retired Tacoma.

I'm looking for an '01-'04 4x4 Tacoma double-cab or Xtra-cab, preferably with the TRD package (or truck equipped with aftermarket locker) and an automatic transmission. The color is not critical (but I do like white), mods aren't critical, location isn't too critical (I'll fly-n-drive to: WA, OR, ID, NV, UT, and AZ for the right truck), but the overall condition needs to be good. Budget limit in the $12k- range. If you're thinking of selling soon, perhaps now's a good time? Feel free to PM if you have or know of something that might fit.

    Thanks!

Good luck James - I was in the same search not too long ago and the 4x4 DC are difficult to come by.

I saw that one, and aside from that 3" body-lift, it looks pretty good. However, the sellers asking price is too high- I've looked at a lot of trucks online over the last few weeks, and I've seen, newer trucks in comparable condition to that one for a couple thousand less. Thanks for giving me the heads up though!

Here's a truck I looked at several weeks ago and passed on. It was a one owner New Mexico truck that a small time local dealer took on trade. The previous owner was a pilot with crazy detailed maint. records. There is a small amount of damage at the passenger side door, but nothing scary. The truck has spent a lot of time on dirt roads when I looked close at the interior details (like under the jump seat storage bays, rubber molding, vents, etc).

This is probably a $5500 truck due to milage and condition, dealer ask is $10.9. I passed due to milage, manual tranny, and lack of rear diff lock. It does illustrate the wiggle room you might have on prices though. Someone will buy this truck for $8K and be very happy I imagine.
I saw that too, and I was also turned off by the 5 speed and lack of diff lock. It's always good to buy a car off of a pilot though, because as you pointed out, they take great notes. Congrats on scoring your new rig! If you see anything else that looks juicy, please feel free to post... thanks!

Just FYI, the truck won't need to be a TRD to have the diff locker. I picked up a basic 2004 SR5 double cab with a "tow package" that is non TRD and has a diff locker. I'll be replacing the stock suspension with Old Man Emu, so the TRD stuff wasn't worth the extra $ anyway.

Ditto that. It took me way longer than I thought to track down my 2003 DC 4x4. I had to give up the TRD, but it was good deal. From what I can tell, if you have the time and money to do the aftermarket locker conversion it can be cheaper than paying extra for the TRD package. The bonus is that the stock rear diff is (so Ive read) stronger than the TRD one.

Hey Walt- Looks great, but it's a bit more than what I've budgeted. Looks awesome though!
