    Default 1960 4W66 Nissan Patrol

When I was in Colombia, South America in January of this year I got a bit of a treat....

I was able to not only view but also go for a ride in a 1960 4W66 Nissan Patrol! This is one rare Nissan!! It was only made and sold in 1959 & 1960. I don't know production numbers but trust me it is super rare anywhere in the world! Colombia first got Nissan Patrols in 1958 and at least 200 of these were sold there, they still get Patrols today. Over the years they have had just about every version of the Patrol you can imagine. I had the pleasure of visting with a man who was one of the first dealers of Nissan Patrols in Colombia. In fact he sold the very first one there and he then went on to sell the first 50 Patrols in Colombia. He didn't own a dealership....back in the late 1950s he was a traveling salesman so to speak. He would take one of the Patrols and drive it out to the rural areas and then try to sell it to the locals. Once a sale was made he would then order the customer a truck. I was also told by this man that the factory colors were realy bad for these trucks. A common color being pink! So he often had them painted before delivery to the customer. Any ways it was a great pleasure to visit with this man...

Even more of a pleasure was getting to crawl all over this truck and go for a ride in it.

This is me under the hood!

    factory full floating rear axle!

a bit hard to see but 4spd tranny...

What makes this model of Patrol so unique is the body work. That and how it is is outfitted engine/drivetrain wise. This paticular body was only used on Patrols in 1958, 1959 & 1960. The sheet metal was super thick like an old Willies. The body on this truck was in excellent shape with next to no rust. The tranny is a 4spd and the rear diff is a center pumkin and a full floater. The more common and more well known G60 Nissan Patrols have a 3spd tranny and an offset rear diff that was never offered in a full floater. The engine in this 1960 Patrol is not the older 1950s engine put in Patrols, ie the NC-series. It is the newer engine that was put in the G60 Patrols, ie the P engine. So you have roughly 2yrs of this model that has the much more common P engine mated to the much older 4spd tranny. I checked the engine numbers to the vin plate to make sure this was original and it was! It is very very unique for an old Patrol.

This truck was (maybe still is) for sale. We found it just outside Bogota, Colombia and the price tag was $10,000. It really was in great condition for its age....it ran decent and drove pretty good. Both my Colombian friend and myself had a really hard time not buying it. I had to force myself not to buy it! My friend was trying to negociate a trade for his super nice 1971 Dodge Demon. I told him don't trade for your Demon because it is the only muscle car he owns and is worth a lot more than $10k! He didn't but he was thinking about it very hard about a trade and the guy with the Patrol was all over that deal! He like myself is a Nissan Patrol freak, in fact Nissan Patrols is how I met him. He has stories about them going back over 30yrs and has owned dozens over the years. Right now he owns 3 Patrols. He and I get along well!

Here is another pic of 4W66 Patrol in Colombia.....this one I didn't get a chance to see. You can kind of see the ugly pinkish red color under the grey paint. The hard top is not a factory item.

Any ways I thought some of you might like to see this. If it interests you I have more pictures of the 1950s Nissan Patrols here....
