    Default VW Eurovan "Cargo"

    Hi,

I'm planing of outfitting our VW Eurovan "cargo" extended wheelbase with a "smart" and removable camping outfit. I certainly have to insulate it and are also looking in installing a pop up roof,Kayak carrier, a couple of windows....

In the past I worked at www.unicat.net, therefore I have a basic idea of how I want certain details to look like. But the more info and ideas I can get, the better!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Andreas

As you probably know your vehicle, known as a Transporter T4 outside the NADA, has been the object of many, many camper conversions.

A few pictures and links in this (Norwegian-language) thread. Lots and lots of info in German on the net. Google Translate is your friend!

    Hi Andreas,

I'm anxious to follow your project. Please be thorough in your build thread.

I would also like to hear what you have in mind as far as ‘smart’ and ‘removable’ camping outfit.

A couple of years ago I ran across a web site (sorry, can’t find it now) for a company that build a pod consisting of the inner floor, inner walls, cabinets, dinette, and (I think) kitchen, that could be slid in and out of the rear doors of a Sprinter van. Personally, I think a more modular approach would be better.

What do you have in mind?

... and another place you might look for ideas is The Self Build Motor Caravanners Club.

Thank you very much for the infos! Going through them I came across this conversion: http://www.ericboyce.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ Very nicely done!

One thing he did I wont do for sure. Putting carpet on the wall... One splash while cooking and that thing looks like crap. Today I stopped at a car junk yard. They usually have some crashed eurovans kicking around. Sadly I only found some burned out ones. Would have loved to buy a rear seat/bed...

Anyhow, as far as materials go, I will be using 1/8 bamboo plywood for the walls, 3/4 bamboo ply for the visible cabinetry, 3/4 maple ply for the bed platform and for the floor probably some type of laminate. http://www.teragren.com/gallery_panels.html
Because I really don't like the idea of drilling holes into the outside walls, I will not have any complicated cooking set up. Most likely I will be fitting my trangia burner. http://www.trangia.se/english/5612.25_series_ul.html

Not quite sure about the windows yet... maybe one or two from Seitz and maybe a sunroof.

As far as lighting goes, I can see LED's being a nice addition.

Curtains of course... Awning, yes, sure , new stereo you bet!

In any case, I'm still using the van to haul stuff for my company... But hope to be able to start converting within the next month

    Will keep you posted.

BTW, here is pic of the inside
