Of those three I think I'd choose Isuzu. MAN and Iveco are common in
Europe, but not in South America or eastern and southern Asia. My
first choice would be Mercedes, just because of the dealer network.

Are you buying a new truck, or used? Have you chosen a route?

My project is to buy a new truck. The route so far would be the following:
Eastern Africa North to south then Madagascar followed by Asia and final Latin America starting by Mexico.

I would add Mercedes Atego 4X4 to your list, due to serviceability worldwide.

Default What to choose between a Heavy or Light 4x4 expedition truck?

I am looking to build a 4x4 expedition truck to travel around the world. I am hesitating between choosing a heavy truck such as a MAN or Unimog or Iveco and a light truck such as the Isuzu NPS 300.
What would be your recommendation and why?

One point to consider for a Round The World truck is that an NPS or Fuso FG can be made to fit in a container for ease of shipping. Everything is secure and therefore you can leave your gear onboard and the cost is less. Much less.

Big trucks might be OK for wide open spaces with no mountain tracks to negotiate but in practice, many roads are narrow with sharp bends and big trucks struggle to get around the tighter bends - and a similar problem exists in negotiating small villages. When you get into really wild country, often the roads are pushed through by normal four-wheel drives and full-size trucks just can't get through without a lot of bush-bashing. Low overhead bridges, narrow road bridges - all good reasons to go smaller rather than larger.
