Do you like Pancakes?

Whether you use a premix or homemade, next time try heating up a few tablespoons of veggie oil in the pan and then add it to the mix. Gives them a nice extra bit of taste.

Also, try brown sugar in lieu of syrup. Mmmmmm.......!

The alternative to home made

Just another perspective - Organic pre-made Batter Blaster.

Actually the batter blaster is really sweet. A little too sweet if you ask me. Nothing compares to home made. I'm just having a little fun here. We've only tried it once.

Homemade riccotta pancakes. Made some 2-weeks ago. Threw the extras in the freezer. I was wondering what I was going to have for breakfast...until this thread reminded me :coffeedrink:

When I was a kid, dad used to do pancake feasts. He'd make a big bunch of homemade batter and cook up huge stacks of pancakes on the cast iron griddle.
Me, my brother & my sister would eat those things with homemade apple butter, homemade grape jelly, homemade plum jelly. In season we'd have homegrown strawberries, apricots, peaches, apples and pears with them.

Sometimes we'd have chopped pecans or walnuts from our trees stirred into the batter. And we'd have bacon from a pig that we'd raised, or homemade german sausage that my great uncle made.

We'd have pancakes when we went camping, too. Usually not quite as many options, but cooked up in the same skillet as the bacon or sausage, those things sure were good. We'd usually make a taco/gordita type of thing with a pancake wrapped around a sausage link or some bacon. Dip it in a bowl of syrup or put some jelly on it. mmm..... :chef:

Oh jeez, does anyone NOT like pancakes?

I'm a scratch person myself, buttermilk only nothing else is acceptable. And make extra and store them in the fridge for a while, then take the cold ones and spread some frosting on them for a mid night snack.

We have a tradition of making apple oatmeal pancakes from scratch. They are some hearty cakes, nobody has ever eaten more than three @ 6" diameter. They are lightly fried in butter to give them a crisp edge. And I top them off with a homemade fruit compote of apples & pears. My recipe was inspired by La Bellavia in Flag. If you could clear a dainty plate of 3 Swedish oat pancakes, they would stick a Polaroid of you the wall. A man can snowboard all day on that kind of fuel.

I have also made crepes from scratch in the field. That’s a little trickier if it’s really windy, those guys fly like kites. Nutella & Bananas is a sure way to make friends.

Would you share the recipe?

This thread needs some data! I love me some pancakes!

Home made, sourdough using a starter we've had for around 15 years.... With real Canadian maple syrup. Thats got to be the second best thing ever from Canada (after my wife...) It's so different than (say) Aunt Jemimah that it's a shame they're both called maple.

They're not. At least, in Canada, Aunt Jemimah is called "Table Syrup". Do they actually label it at maple syrup down there?

The good stuff here (Canadian maple syrup) goes for around $30 now for a quart size bottle last time I checked at my local Safeway store.

Wow, and I thought it got to be too expensive at $15/L. I haven't bought in a few years since it went to $15 from $10/L. I love real maple syrup but man... $15/L is pricey.

As for pancakes, yeah, love 'em, but I'm a simpleton. Straight buttermilk pancake with syrup. Don't usually put butter, though I guess I should try. My folks put peanut butter and syrup on top. Surprisingly it tastes a lot like a Reese's PB cup. But heavy... can't eat too many of those.

I will only ever make it from scratch. I don't get the premade stuff at all. My dad bought some "Krusteaz" mix from Costco, and it was horrible. Like leather. It only takes a couple minutes to make real batter so what's the deal? You can even premix the powder and store it if you want.

The best pancakes I ever had was a Pumpkin Pancake I bought from this Pancake restaurant in Birmingham MI. Pumpkin and nutmeg in it. Mmmm.... I would love to find a recipe.

Is Aunt Jemimah even technically real maple syrup? It probably has so much other garbage in it like artificial flavoring and preservatives and high fructose corn syrup that it is far from being real. Maybe one little drop of real maple syrup per bottle, if you're lucky.

I tend to go for the homemade syrups too, made with local fruits. Huckleberry syrup has to be just about the best.

Hey, they have it at Freddy's and Safeway after plugging in my zipcode.
I am going to pick up some and see how I like it.

It certainly would be easy for camping.

No, of course it's not real. I don't think there's a single drop of real maple syrup in it. It's sugar, water, and artificial flavor.

Pecan Pancake...mmmm

Pancake batter of choice, I use a modified bisquik mix. Fresh pecan toasted, then add butter and brown suger, melt until smooth... top pancakes and add some real whip cream. For a twist add bananas to batter and top with ice cream... Yum.

NOTE: Not diabetic friendly or waistline for that matter.

:drool::drool::drool:

Now I need to go raid the kitchen...
