    Default Best price on OME?

I'm going with OME's 1.5" suspension system on my XJ, but I have to do it in stages to spread out the expense. I really need new shocks pronto so I'd like to order those now. Where have you guys found the best prices on these? And does it matter that I'll be doing the shocks now but won't be doing the springs until the summer? I'll likely put very few miles on the Jeep between now and then, maybe 1000 or so miles.

Why not just save the $ then do it all at once?

I would but...I really need shocks now. The rears are clapped out completely and I can't afford the whole setup right away. I know, I hate doing stuff half-

there are reasons why you should not buy your shocks now for a lift later. shocks for a stock vehicle are shorter- and for a lifted vehicle longer. do the math. if you compress a shock too far, you'll blow it out.

i recommend going to a junk yard and pulling a set to get you through until you have the funds to procede. my second piece of advice is to get a RE 3.5" lift with full leaf pack- a whole lot more bang for the buck. also check out naxja.org and search function there for extensive advice and write ups on all kinds of topics. it will save you a lot of headache if you do your research in advance.

I appreciate your info. I have done my homework and I know I want the 1.5" OME kit. I don't really want much if any lift. I need a smooth ride for daily driving and access to camping grounds via Forest Service and fire roads. I don't rock crawl, but I need new and good suspension. I used to have a '78 Wagoneer with a 3" lift and an '86 CJ7 with lift but those days are over. The mild quality OME will suit me....so, if anyone wants to recommend a place to buy, send the info my way. Thanks!

in that case why not just stay stock? IMO- you're getting very little from the OME or any 1.5" lift for the cost.

there are a lot of ways to lift a cherokee on the cheap ie. bastard pack leafs and GC springs. 3.5" is not that much lift and still maintains road manners well. i just drove mine 1700mi round trip on highway loaded without any issues.

besides- OME has their stuff made in Taiwan now anyways as far as i know.

I don't have much to add on the price. I wouldn't personally worry much about putting a 1.5" shock on a stock height Jeep. Re tends to spec all of their short shocks for TJ and XJ @ 0-2" lift.

Another easy way to check to see if you'll be safe is to see if the OME kit you're planning on using comes with bump stop extensions. If it does try to get those and install @ the same time as the shocks. I doubt that it does though.

Email kolak@aol.com . He will set you up. He has the best customer service and the best prices I know of. Also, if you aren't set on OME shocks he has Bilstein 5100 series shocks on sale for $295 right now. They are an awesome shock- especially for that price.
