Default Some Time Behind The Camera Finally

So I've been busier than a one legged guy in a butt kicking contest (No offence Lance) lately and just havent had much time to play with the camera.

I've been taking alot of photos, but more event coverage of the local nightlife scene for Facebook type of shots and that's fun, but if you love photography, it doesnt seem to satisfy the hunger.

My wife left me alone today while she went down to West Palm Beach to get a new tooth...Long Story, you'll have to read our blogs to hear about that...and after I got my chores done, I noticed a storm building up out over the Gulf of Mexico.

I grabbed the camera, threw it in the saddle bag of the motorcycle and went out riding by myself to see what I could get.

I wasnt a block from our place when I snagged this shot.

Then in our little town of Cedar Key, I thought this was an interesting contrast. This little cabin is from the early 1900's and is just left from a few Hurricane's that got the best of it. The pier you see behind it is a FEMA montrosity that was built after the old, wooden pier was ripped out in a Hurricane. I liked how the two are so drastically different

Then as I was working on these photos. I thought I heard something strange outside, and I looked out the window to see the sky lighting up like some kid was playing with the light switch.

Those big clouds had moved in closer to shore and were throwing lightining bolts all over the sky. I threw a 17mm lens on the 5D body and mounted it on a tripod. I ran out to the end of our dock looking back at the little RV Campground and just left the shutter open for awhile

I wanted to stay out there longer and just play, but these clouds brought in some nasty winds and rain, which brought me back inside. But it was fun while it lasted.

It felt good to be back behind the camera, and even though my legs look like they have Chicken Pox from standing outside while getting chewed by Florida Mosquitoes...i.e. the size of small bats, it was way worth it!

Great shots as always. The 3rd one is spectacular.

I know the feeling, it's been a while since I have gotten a chance to shoot. I haven't even broken in my 24-70 yet. Two weeks left until the semester is over then I should have more time.

    Thanks for sharing

Nice Shots Pat, your right that FEMA pier has no character at all!

It's good to see some of the real Florida still exists.

Matt, that FEMA pier is such a sore subject around our little town.

It went from a small fishing town that had this historic dock that boats could pull right up to the main part of town, to this monster that is 25' out of the water. Boats cant pull up to it and its hard for people to fish off of it even

Sort of an eye sore really. The big joke is that when the next hurricane blows through, the town will be wiped out and the only thing left standing will be that pier so they know where Cedar Key once was

Pat, nice shots. I'm looking forward to the Arizona summer monsoon season.

I feel your pain. All I have been shooting has been graduation and school plays. At least I got to play with one long exposure shot of the play's cast with them staying still for 5 of 10 seconds then all but one of them walking off camera leaving their ghost images behind.

    Cool shot Brad.

I'm looking forward to the Summer lightining season here in Florida. Since the majority of our migratory birds have flown North, I'm sort of sitting here with my camera wondering where to point it.

I'm sure I'll have more lightining shots to post up over the next few months

Maybe you should go grab some fuzzy cat or flower pics.
