I cut out the back 1/2 of the Suburban roof so that I can forklift pallets of energy drinks in the back for work. At one point I had a soft tonneau cover that fit a stepside Toyota Tacoma, but I wanted something a little more permanent, and with hinges.
Here are a few pics of the 80's Westfalia top on my 84 suburban. I cut 8" out of the front cargo portion and moved the hinges on the pop top so that it opens to the back. The top did not come with any hardware but the poptop hinges, so I am still making it all work (with limited skill and budget). There is a gap where I cut the original Suburban roof, and where the Westy top joins, and I am still playing with how best to close that space. I have used various materials. I may just make the back of the Westy top straight in the back with fiberglass so that it overlaps the back doors.
Wow , that's great !! There is no Frame above the Barn Doors ?
Work in Progress ...
