Thread: Mitsubishi 4D56T into a 1988 Mazda B2600

    Default Mitsubishi 4D56T into a 1988 Mazda B2600

I am in the process of putting a 4D56T into a 1988 b2600. I chose the 1988 because it supposed to be the easiest swap due to the fact it has a mitsubishi petrol engine in it already and shares engine mounts( I hope) late model 4d56T seems to be a bit different, see pics. The oil pan also can be swapped with some minor mods. Other modes include extending the oil pickup to suit the petrol oil pan which much be used to fit the diesel into the b2600.
    More to come.

I also chose the Mazda because I have a 1993 Mazda B2600i extended cab which I love, but I have recently been bitten by the diesel smell, I mean bug!
after converting my Land Rover 90 to a diesel, I really wanted to do the same for my Mazda.

That new engine is very nice! How pricey are they new?
Mine was $2300 shipped from Cali, but I had to do both belts, water pump, etc.

Here are some of the necessary mods
Oil pump pickup needed to be extended, to work with the Mazda Oil pan.

    Default Engine mounts

The engine mounts need to be figured out. The 4D56t mounts need to be combined with 2 pieces from from the old gas motor. The actual rubber mount and the tray it sits in, may need a weld. Weld the tray to the bracket that attached to the actual 4d56 block, so it won't spin.

The closer mounting bracket is the one from the 4d56 combined with the mount and tray from the gas motor.
the further one is the one that came off the gas engine.

If you look really close to the second pic, you can see the angle is a bit different. I'm hoping this won't be a problem.

    That crate motor runs $4800.

What kind of flares are those on your truck?

    Is that complete from $4800?

I assume the flares are from another model made to fit. I actually have a set from a 1987 ranger which I am going to compare to them and see if they would work on the rear. They do look like the Bushwacker flares that I have.

Is it a mechanical injection diesel ? That does sound like a good price...
    Cheers,

Great. With a manual transmission, that should be a nice set-up
    Cheers,
