Default Pests Phoenix Camper Build and Rebuild

What does everybody do once they finally start getting the things they've been dreaming of?? Start a build thread! Or at least something like it. There may not be so much "build" but at least pictures and mods and stuff. So here's mine!

About a month ago, I picked up a 2005 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Long Bed 6.9L Cummins. It is wonderful! As soon as we got it, the hunt for our perfect camper to mate with it began.

A little bit ago I started a thread asking about a Starcraft Pine Mountain 800 camper because we /really/ like the floor plan layout of it. Here is the thread.

Well, after visiting a few Popup dealers around Denver, and then a visit to Hallmark, where we had the pleasure of running into and meeting Gordon and Angela White, the publishers of Truck Camper Magazine, who were really helpful, we made an appointment to visit Coyote RV. We were NOT disappointed! They are WONDERFUL people!

Armed with a print out of the Pine Mountain 800 floor plan, we inquired about the possibilities of this being built for us. Expecting the worst, we got a surprising "Absolutely"! In fact, it's even better, we'll have a cassette toilet (hooray no black water tank!) and an additional bunk on top of the couch (which will also fold into a bed). Easily sleeping 4, maybe more in a pinch. The camper will have the really nifty aerodynamic front nose, AND won't stick out past the rear bumper of the truck!

Best yet, it will be delivered before middle of July this year! That's way faster than even a standard cookie cutter model from FWC! (I know because I called, they said late August at the soonest!)

I know that this thread is useless without pictures, but they will come as quick as I can get them. Hopefully I can get a few shots of the camper as it's being built too. For now, you'll have to go to my previously linked thread to see the floor plan and whatnot. I'll get a few of our truck maybe tomorrow.

Is it middle of July yet!!!

Here's only a couple pictures of the truck as it sits. I suppose the only mod/upgrade I've had time to do so far is adding a car dock for the Nexus One. It's perfectly positioned. Out of the way, not hanging on the windshield where it's an obstruction of view, but easily glanced at without losing sight of the road, and within reach to control the GPS/Music/Whatever. (In the upper left of the picture, just right of the steering wheel)

    More to come!

Never heard of them but damn, that's a fine pedigree. They started both FWC and Tiger RV according to their website!!??

Look forward to seeing the pics.

Wow. That's sweet. Wasn't aware that these aluminum framed pop up campers (FWC, ATC, Phoenix, are there more?) were built on a plywood base. Was under the impression that they were a complete aluminum frame, top to bottom. Phoenix is making some very nice campers. Got to love that indoor shower, cassette toilet option.

July will be here before you know it. Now you have some time to work on the truck. Congrats.

None of the four wheel campers are cookie cutter type campers.

We build every camper specifically for each customer.

There is a good reason why it takes so long to get one of our campers !

The team over at Coyote Campers will take good care of you.

He has been around trucks campers his entire life.

I'm sure you will really like your new camper.

They build a good camper out there.

    Happy Truck Camping !

Meaning no offense, just simply meant the difference between a standard "model plan" vs. Coyote's "every camper is essentially a one-off build."

Also should say, we have nothing agains FWC, we just want to be able to use the camper this summer, and the time frame quoted frankly saddened us a bit. No blame to FWC though, that's actually good to hear from a standpoint of FWC will be around for a while with increasing popularity. We had just not intended on actually purchasing a camper until the last month or so. If we had acted sooner, I'm sure we would have gotten a FWC sooner!

    Congrats Pest!

I didn’t even know of these people until I saw your post. I am envious! In fact, so envious that I called and Cari is working me up a quote as well. I love the aluminum frame AND SMOOTH SIDES. No corrugated siding! Yayy.

I love your idea of using the Pine Mountain 800 floor plan as well. That is a very nice floor plan. Hope you don’t mind if I follow your lead on this one. The main difference with my spec will be the fact that I want a low profile with the camper terminating at the bedfloor end (camper won't stick out past the floor where the tailgate would be).

Thanks, already heard back from Cari, said you mentioned this thread

Our design will also not stick beyond the rear of the truck, should be about even with the tail lights (at least that's the rough estimate for the moment). Overall floor length should be right at about 8'.
