Trailer lid frame looks the same as previous pic, load bars are now made. Here is a picture of the skin all welded up (with reinforced corners). It will attach to the frame with rivets (on the sides) and bolts on the top where the skin will be sandwiched between the lid frame and the 3 load bars. Some type of textured finish will also be applied to the skin, not sure what yet but we won't leave it plain.

Getting much closer, taking it our this weekend for a little test run. Very productive day today between Marshall and I. Corner welds finished, rivited the skin onto the frame, bolted up the handles and installed the gas strut thingies. Mounted and bolted the loadbars to the skin (supported underneath with the frame) and mounted out the tent (Eezi Awn 1800).

Only a couple things left - polish the lid and figure out what type of finish, install clamps to hold the lid down (I used a strap for now), and then figure out the whole "how much would it cost to make one of these for other people" thing.

Now, a question. For those with any type of lid that supports a RTT, what type of gas strut are you using to assist the lid in opening? We used two of the heaviest ones at Autozone (no rating though), the will hold the lid open but not with the tent on it.
