OME Spring question

I'm looking at putting in the OME heavy duty springs in front of my 2000 Disco II. It states that a load of 150-250 lbs in front will roughly give 1.75 inches lift. Am I safe to assume that with less weight it will probably be double that.

Basically, I want to start getting my truck ready for all the major mods that are to follow, so that's why I'm trying to decided whether to put these units in.

Double that would be 3.5" of lift. I honestly didn't think OME made a lift that large. I've heard that a 2" OME lift will give about 1.5-1.75" of lift. The 2" RTE gives more, usually a little over 2" maybe even 2.5".

I believe I drove around like that for a few weeks before putting my bumper on. I really didn't notice it was jacked up that much more. You can do the math. The heavy duty springs are 220 lb/in. There are two in front. Therefore, every 440lbs on the nose will compress the springs 1". 220lbs on the nose would only change the height 0.5"

Now, the question is, the specified lift, is that at base weight, or is that with the specified weight increase? And then, is it the 110 lbs, 250lbs, or in the middle? It's not clear from the specs. Regardless, I don't think you'll get more than 2.5" lift from them with no weight on the nose.

Less weight will not double the lift.

Use MD springs for general daily driving on pavement and light off pavement driving.

If you plan on getting a winch and full bumper go HD as MD will sag with the additional 150-200lbs in front of the front axle. Don't go HD unless you need to.

I run XHD, a load spring, which I wouldn't recommend unless you are fully committed. It's for a heavyily laden vehicle. (I have front and rear bumpers, sliders, dual winches, compressor, inverter and other electronics. Add the tools and parts and we are well over 1k additional lbs.

I netted 4" from that lift before piling all the other stuff on. I now sit over 3".

Correct. But the OME XHD gives over 3" close to 3.5-4" depending on weight while the RTE 3" gives 3.5 to 4" too.

Running the OME without weight in the truck will give you a very painful and jarring ride.

The painful and jarring ride of heavy springs can be greatly mitigated by the right shock absorbers. I actually prefer my HD ride to the stock truck. OME did a good job on the shock tuning.

Agreed but HD and XHD are too very different beasts. 220 vs 440lb/in.

Stick with MD or HD.

I will have a very heavily laden Disco as well and am planning the same thing. Given the lift height, did you have to do any other mods to correct caster, driveshafts, etc? How does it drive in this regard?

I already have a u-joint rear shaft, and am planning a CV shaft in front. Also, I plan to have the swivel balls redrilled and the radius arms modified for the lift. Considering either a Tru-trac or ARB in front, and an ARB in the rear.

If you are looking for a 3in. lift without the extra HD rating GBR has 3in. springs in the 762 spring rate.
