Lionel L400 for my offroad trailer

We just Buy for 400$ this old tent trailer for a own custom offroad trailer

It a 1982, it sleep 5 person, is weight of 800lbs and the external dimension are 5' x 8'

For me it's a good start for the price!

It need:

new canvas
new axel with electric brake with hub pattern of 6 x 5.5"(toyota one)
trailer attach swivel
a cargo case in front whit batteries and electric stuff
a big water tank with a water heater and a pump kit
refresh all matelas
i have tu change the rear bumper to add a hitch and swingout for take the spare out of the way when we open the tent.
new wheel and new unlarge 35" of tire.
new suspension and shakle
change the old fashon floor
Paint like with the FJ pattern...and maybe a little wrapout...i will see!

I will put more picture next week when i will have more time!

This weekend I strip all the interior of the tent trailer

Next step...I will buy new axel that i found! all the kit including, elect. brake, hub with my bolt pattern, suspension for about 400$ and it's brand new! I was surprise about the price! The axel will be offset too!

J'ai été jasé avec un gars qui se spécialise depuis trente ans dans le domaine de réparation de tente-roulotte & Véhicules récréatifs....Et ce qu'il m'a dit m'a ébranlé comme il faut!

À ces débuts....il essayait toujours de solidifier les mcx remplacés lors d'une réparation....GROSSE BÊTISSE, m'a-t-il dit! À cause qu'il solidifait une partie...une autre brisait! Juste à temps qu'il commence à réparer les mcx par un autre identique! Morale de l'histoire, c'est que je m'embarque dans un projet encore plus ambitieux!

Il m'a expliquer, qu'une tente roulotte ou une roulotte, si çà ne brise pas, c'est parceque c'est capable d'absorber une certaine flexion....c'est souple comme produit final! Il faut que tout soit renforcie si j'ai à renforcir. Tout doit flexer plus ou moins égale! C'est là que çà se corse! C'est loin d'être impossible car il exsiste des remorque offroad performantes dans l'ensemble...Mais il m'a conseiller de tout défaire au complet! Donc si je renforcie le frame, et à certain % donc je dois solidifier la carcasse aussi ainsi que le toit similairement.

C'est des beaux défis....c'est sûr que je vais avoir besoin d'aide de gens qui seront être capable d'évaluer ces différentes forces de flexion mais comme j'ai dis au départ, c'est un projet qui peut durer entre un an ou deux ans!

Pour la toile, j'ai trouvé la cie Unicanevas qui sont les anciens fabricants de la marque Bonair et Lionel, ils ont tous les patrons de toile et çà vaut 1850+tx.

Pour mon toit, je veux le mettre A1, et ils voudrais me charger 1800$ aussi...! Ha ben là, c'est trop! Je vais le refaire moi-même...de tout de façon, il fallait que je le modifie pour y installé un rack à Zodiac

Il m'a aussi recommander de tout faire l'installation à partir de la remorque parterre sur son essieu, c'est noté!

prochaine étape, on enlève les toile et on sépare la carcasse!

I just got a discussion with a man who working for thirthy years to rebuilt and repair camping trailer and tent camping trailer. What he said was like a very cold glass of water into my face!

At his beginning, he was every time fixing camper trailer more strong then the factory made it! It was a big mistake! Because allways another part broke a few day later! When i decied to replace broking part by the same thing all Ok after!

What i understand, is tent camping trailerare made for having flexion and all part are having almost the same flexion force. If i put the frame more strong, i have to reinforce the cab and the roof too. In same proportion.

I found the place for my canevas...it's the original fabric, that change name and just making canevas instead of camping tent trailer, and it cost +/- 1800$

For my roof, those guys can fix it but for about 1800$...The advace of the guy is to separate the tub from the frame and changing the floor and the old cable mechanism! At the same time i will make the rack for a zodiac on the roof!

Also, he gave me the advace to absolutely rebuilt the camping tent trailer on his own axel and not on a table or on stand

Like I said before...it a one year or two years project and It's require more thinking about how i will do it....More ingeneering! One of the fun part!

If some person are having facility with some software who can measure some flexion ...I will accept the helping for sure! Thanks!

Nice little platform. Similar dimensions of the main box to what I hope to build soon. I see there is a double bed which slides out at the front, and what looks like a small fold out (?) at the back? Just wondering what the sleeping configuration for 5 is?

a mon avis je repartirais en neuf le frame
(cest pas si chère que ca ) déja que tu change la suspension et cest ca qui coute chère

pour les toile à 1800$ magasin cest pas un deal !!!

I just finish getting out every thing on the frame...

The principal part of the frame is 3/16" or 1/4" thick...that just grade! I will have to change rear end, the front end, install water tank support and add a X structure to each corner to solidify the frame...:victory:
