Hey Luis, like Dan & Coen, we have also been busy with some development over the last few months, we have launched Overland Map beta - which displays all posts on an overland map, (Dan & Coen, your more than welcome to integrate the map from our site into anything you are working on)
28-12-2012 13-59-00.jpg
The map is currently in beta but we are adding the following functionality:
- Maps per continent / country
- Overland routes by continents / countries
- Possibly with live updates / comments
- Ability for users to add the following to the maps
- Accommodation / Camping spots & Reviews
- Mechanics on the road – Reviews / info
- Shipping Agents
- Border crossing info on map
- Overland Photo & Video Maps
- Ability to filter maps by Overlander(s)
- Overlanders Personal Maps
- Not for profit organisations and volunteering opportunities
- Overland Photo's & Videos
- Ability to download and load all POI's & tracks to any GPS
We are also just building extended profiles into the site to create a searchable and filterable page of overlanders by the following criteria:
· Location / Region travelled
· Dates of Travel
· Vehicle Type / Model
· Date of last post
As part of the profile we will output a profile page which will include the above, bio, picture, social links (Web, FB, Google, flickr, Youtube etc) mods, personal overland map (displaying route & posts),
The kind of information we are gathering is on our registration page: http://overlandsphere.com/register
The profile will be available for those who syndicate posts to OverlandSphere and those who don't we will build a front end page where any user can suggest a new profile to be added to the list,
Ideally we are looking for the site to updated by users themselves, i,e their own profile data, add camp spots, accom reviews, mechanic reviews and other POI's, most other content is automated,
It is quite a bit of work but should be complete soon, the key is to build any functionality now into the design, prior to committing resource to finalise the core functionality & styling.
Therefore, any input or ideas would be welcome.
P.s As most are aware OverlandSphere is not for profit, so any dev. is out of our own pockets / overland budget, if any would like to donate their skills, or just help populate the site with information they have collated, it would be appreciated.
