    Default Rear Receiver mounted winch

    Purchased my milemarker winch about a week ago and installed it yesterday. I mounted it with a 3/8 inch steel plate welded to the top of my rear reciever. I had heard some bad things about the electronics on the milemarker winches when they get wet so i moved all the electronics underneath my carpet kit. I really liked the idea of hiding my winch because i live in downtown san diego where winches like to dissapear off trucks all the time. I havent gotten around to taking pictures yet but i will at some point today and post them.

    Out of curriosity, what is your winch rated for (8000 lbs)? Did you beef up your receiver or add additional mounting points to your frame?
    Receivers are pretty strong, but in some instances you could easily go over their rated towing capacity especially if you are really stuck. For example if you are on the first layer of rope on your winch drum, assuming an 8000 lbs capacity winch you could be exerting up to 8000 lbs. I'd be a bit concerned that the receiver would be the weak link at this point. Something to think about. You could easily beef up your receiver with a bit of steel, accesss to a welder and some time.

    I to also have the option of winching from the rear.....It's pretty handy when you are in a tight spot!

    I apologize i left for a trip to Yuma, Arizona and havent been able to post any pictures. but just for you guys i went outside and snapped some shots. Enjoy.
    As far as im concerned the receiver worked out great for winching in yuma. The only thing i need to reinforce better is the 3/8 inch piece of steel that is mounted to the receiver i am thinking about welding some crossbars underneath it kind of like a truss.
    The only other problem is where i cut the hole for the fairlead i need to make it a little bit higher so that the cable doesnt rub.
    I said before about my application, it is perfect for someone who wants to keep the stock look of their truck and also keep people from making off with your winch.
    You will also see that i mounted the electronics in my bed, i dont run across rivers too often but i thought that having it up inside my bed would keep it out of the elements a little bit more.

    Oh and speaking of my trip in Yuma. The trip ended up paying for itself. I went on about a 50 mile offroad trail ended up eating lunch under a tree and saw something red underneath another tree across the way. I walked over and there lay an optima red top 800 cca the 185 dollar one . So i placed it in my truck thinking if all else fails i can try and get a warranty out of the thing. I brought it back home and had it tested and it was 100% in working condition. So... now i am running that battery as my starting battery. How sweet is that!
