Anyhoo. I talked to her today and shes all game on going to drivers school and driving around a lower price rig til shes expirenced alittle more. I think I found a good drivers school. Ill talk to them tomorrow and let you guys know what they say, see if they are the real deal.

So that means a D2 or maybe a ragged out MKIII. Not sure yet. Like I said I think a good Christmas or birthday surprise would be a Sport. Then the D2 or MKIII becomes mine.:victory: With the D2 I might sell or keep it. A MKIII is a keeper for sure. Nice to expand the current knowlege of the platform. Not enough people out there that DIY the work on them.

Any of the moderators can bring it back. If you want us to do it, just let us know.

Can someone please post the link to that pretty gruesome and disturbing video. I have a 14yr old brother starting drivers ed soon. He's very reckless on his atv.

Thanks

An SUV is definitely not the kind of car for someone who is a poor driver and doesn't understand how the laws of physics applies to driving.

Well. On the one hand, I see your point. A lower center a gravity vehicle will be more forgiving of handling errors. However, on the other hand, when you do make those errors, the survivability may go up with the extra height, weight and toughness of the SUV. This is purely selfish though, because with the survivability of the driver/passengers goes the greater collateral damage when you hit a smaller/weaker vehicle with the SUV. SUV's have been proven to be more deadly to the drivers and passengers of other vehicles in wrecks due to their greater weight and higher bumper heights.

When shopping for an "appliance" car these are my standard sites to do research:

http://safercar.gov/

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/

http://fueleconomy.gov/

http://euroncap.com/home.aspx

It sounds like the OP is using this as an opportunity to pad his garage. There is nothing wrong with that but at the same time it does not serve the correct purpose of educating his partner. I firmly suggest that the OP uses this opportunity to get his partner "up to speed" so that they are a contributor to the driving of the household as opposed to a liability in that regard.

A proper driver's ed course is a good start. Is she comfortable with the rules of the road? Is she "spazzy" behind the wheel?

There's two aspects to driving. The first is knowing the rules of the road. This should be known without having to think about it; automatic.

The second is the physicalness of driving. This can be a tougher nut to crack, particularly if the person has never been involved in any sports or physical activity in the past. They may not have good instincts.

There are two things that help the physical part of driving: being able to project/track objects in the distance and/or out of sight in your mind and the ability to look ahead and allow peripheral vision deal with immediate vehicle placement. If she is good with those two things then she just needs seat time.

If you want another Land Rover then go buy one. But also consider buying a beater for your spouse to cut her teeth on, to do the driver training, to run into the median at the mall parking lot, to get "wife marks" along sides of the vehicle every time it enters or leaves a garage, etc. Any of the cars with a 5 star rating at the sites listed above would be good for that purpose.

What is he doing driving an ATV under 16? Where are the parents? Up here anyway, that's illegal.

No.

And just in case it was missed in the first thread:

If your wife is going to run into an immovable object or even larger vehicle, would you rather they were in this?

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=122

Or this?

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=15

I know what my choice is.

Can't we bring the old thread back and just merge it with this one?
