That container house looks fantastic! 20' or 40' ? Living in a little house on a Mexican beach sounds better than a van down by the river.

Just getting bids on container houses now but mostly interested in 40'. Would love to buy one here and build it myself, but I haven't been able to figure out shipping to Mexico![]()
There are several trucking companies that specialize in moving other peoples trailers one way. This is what I would do:
1) Build it at home.
2) Buy a 40" chassis and get it road worthy.
3) Hire the trucking/drive away company to pull it to the border.
4) Hire the Mexican company to pull it to its destination and ask them if they will accept the chassis as partial payment.
Of course you will need a crane or Big forklift on both ends, so the beach could make this tricky. You could also send it on a drop deck or drive off trailer and pull it off the back at its destination.
You could try calling a Customs Broker to help make arrangements. Somebody like Schenker. (ni affiliation).
40', about 320 square-foot. Like an Ikea sized appartment. Nice.
That's a good plan for a remote cabin, I'd just make sure you could button it all up when you leave making it harder for any peekers and seekers.
How's the Astro build going? Any pics of the inside?
Are you also getting bids on local construction? It can't be too expensive.
I'm going to ask the tough question now; would your place have been affected by the recent flood along the river if it were already installed where you plan on installing it?

Thanks Ozarker. Good advice. Lucky for us we have a friend near by.
T.Low. We're actually 1 lot back from the river. We also had a retaining wall built that goes 3' into and above ground. We're also getting bids on concrete construction however, it's not as cheap as you might expect. About $100 per sq. ft. Here is a Sketch-up design I did. 4 individual 12'x12'x12' "Pods" each with their own bath and kitchenette. Collected rainwater and solar.
Hmmm? Maybe we need a new thread![]()
