Default '01 Frontier ?s about 5spd. rear brakes and jump seats

How the heck do you get the fill plug out of the manual transmission? It's tight as dicks hatband! Is there a trick? I actually had the jack under the breaker bar and was lifting up the truck. Lots of PB Blast and no luck. So glad I didn't pull the drain plug first.

Also was curious if any one had upgraded to rear disks. Is it a junk yard shopping spree, and a plug and play? Or is it more involved?

Thinking about pulling the backseat and installing one solo seat on the side. Gotta have room for the kid, but I want to mount a fridge on a hard flat surface. Seems like it would free up allot of space too. Just curious if it had already been done. Thanks guys!

i had a toyota with a manual tranny. i would just fill it from inside the cab. i would remove the shifter and dump the oil in from the top. i knew how much went in, so i would only over fill it a tad.

Brilliant idea! I'll have to try that. Nice place to sit AND a cup holder!

OK, removed shifter boot and plate in the floor. I see six bolts holding the cover the shifter comes through. I would assume I could pull these six bolts and remove the shifter pretty easy. Can I just pull it off and put it back on? Is it that easy, or am I about to strand myself in my only set of wheels?

Not sure what is involved but I know there are a few that convert to disc brake from a Pathfinder.

If you go to the clubfrontier.org forum, there is a user on there who converted to rear disc but its not as easy as just swapping from a pathy. User is Roastbeef. Look him up.

Thanks for the responses. Hey project510, got a build thread for your 510? Always liked those.

Anybody else know about pulling the shifter to add oil? My tranny gets a little warm on occasion and is a bit noisy sometimes. Kinda worries me because it is inter mitten.

I am actually trying to sell it. Bad timing I guess. I live in an apt now so its impossible to build anything here. A project car will have to wait until I own a home.

Yeah just take the bolts out then pull it off. Its pretty easy to take off and put back. I know was worried too like I'd pull it and springs and gizmos would fly out but yeah pretty simple. Dump the oil in through the top 5 Qt's I believe.

Thanks, I have heard that dreadful clanking of lost parts before. Not to mention all that FOD paranoia from my Army days as a helicopter JiffyLube guy.
