Flippac guru's or a question for Martyn

Can anyone tell me the specific differences between the different manufactures of the flippac over the years?

The flippac I have I believe is one of the earlier versions with the latches at the rear and barn doors, I believe these features suggest 6pack as the mfg. The AT Flippac is reportedly stronger fir offroad durability, but I can find no mention of what is specifically reinforced. I am goin to be doing some heavy modification to my flippac and I am trying to decide if while I have it under the knife I can do some strengthening in key areas, so all my work will not be in vain.

I ran into a truck accessory dealer who once carried Flip Pacs, presumably when they were built by SixPac. He looked at mine and went straight for the front bulkhead area saying that they crack between the front window and the corners.

I read a post where Martyn said he would not disclose how he modified the FP. Cannot blame him. But my guess is that area gets reinforced. And that makes sense.

My Dodge Ram flexes a lot. See the pictures, below. The body lines tell the story. That would seem to create some racking of that front bulkhead.




Not all trucks are a flexxy as 2nd gen Dodge. So, the AT mods may be more valuable to me that to a Toyota owner, for example. But I am considering building a cage inside my FP to minimize that racking.

I don't well if that's one of the reinforced areas I guess I'm good to go there. Myflippac will be cut off right there and attached to the one piece body of the 4runner.

Another question, is there a way to remove the tent and flip portion of the flippac. I would like to reduce the weight of the unit while I'm doing the mods cause there will be a lot of testing and fitting. And I will be fiberglassing in close proximity to the tent and would like to avoid anything getting on the tent fabric.

I had already told them I had no interest in buying a new one, as there is no option for the 4runner, and they agreed that buyig a used one was the best route.. so its not like they were trying hard to sell me one (that I know of)

I just asked what the differences were, as AT touts their flippacs to be of more stout build and reinforced in certain areas...

she said, "There is no difference between the 2, we build AT's Flppacs(common knowledge) and there is nothing special about them."

maybe someone from AT can chime in here and set the record straight.

Whoever answered your questions at FRP was misinformed. Our walls are made thicker and electrical is to our specs with AT supplying the components.

what is the thickness of your walls as opposed to the FRP flippacs?

I am curious because I would like to strengthen my pre-FRP flippac due to the modifications I am making to the structure, and for better durability offroad. I am trying to decide if it is economical, or even possible to add additional layers to mine.

The lady cut me off before I had even finished the question with the whole "No difference" thing.
