The ROAM (Recreation Optimized All-terrain Module) was based off my previous trailer platform, with a few upgrades and changes I learned along teh way.

The welding was a new adventure...and I got real good at grinding, but fun none the less...

Once the metal work was done it was flipped and the wood word work commenced...but first a test run around the block:ylsmoke:

Once the framing was completed the sheathing and FRP was applied. I used rubber roofing to finish the top.

Then once the FRP and trim were completed...the finish details could begin. The back doors were added, the fold up kitchen was designed and layed out, and electric could start.

So the ARB RTT, the ARB 2500mm Awning, shovel, axe and jerry cans are ready to go. The 21 gal. water tank and 2 - 6V batteries were added, coupled with an Iota 45 amp converter and charger.

Thanks to my nephew John for all his help (last pic)..we're gonna make camper out of that guy yet!

Wow! That is stoutly built for sure. I feel like a schmuck for asking for more pics after all the documentation, but any more of the interior? Is it going to be finished or are you leaving the structure exposed?

The reason I tried to keep it short and sweet, was it's certainly not a lighter, trail ready type build. Although I think from a suspension point of view, it would fair rather well, but just by shear bulk, height, and weight (I'm guessing 2700 lbs loaded with gear and water) would pretty much eliminate it from anything too crazy. There is, in my opinion, not many people that would drag that behemoth to far in the wild...but I guess a nice 80 series with a V8 would fair ok.

This is all Brad's fault...and I blame it all on him. All those KK's floating around out West really inspired me to make a more complete, well equipped, almost at home, platform.

As far the interior, the only thing much different from what you see now, is a finished box and top, over the batteries and water tank. Also there is an aluminum track on each side to accommodate a pull out bed that accepts an air mattress. It fits perfect in the 51", and was super comfortable. The inside will be insulated with 1-1/2" blue foam, but I may have it sprayed foamed instead. Over the foam will be 1/4" Oak veneer prefinished plywood. Special access panels for plumbing and wiring will be removable with a couple of screws. Once the design is finished, the bed inside will morph into a couch, with a small removable table(perhaps flip down). This will all happen in early spring, in anticipation of an early jump start on the season.


A few goodies left are some 110 V wiring (shore power) and figure out why the gas stove didn't light, I think maybe the interior regulator is shot. The ARB annnex has to extended because the tent is so damn high, but while I'm doing that I'll sew in a floor to boot.
