Your photos make me want to get started on my trip to South America.

Yeah ! , there are so many things to see and do in Latin America , every country , although for foreign eyes might look similar , is completely different and have their own highlights. Some are wild some more developed, some are insecure, some are trustable, but latins are very warm and friendly with travellers ... we in Chile have many different landscapes, dry desert in the north , to rainforests and chilly Patagonia, are very stable and secure to travel, you can camp on the outdoors and have no wild animals to fear of. Ideal time to travel would be September through March to avoir rain in the south , and year round in the north. Most of this has been pictured in my thread of Chile you see here.

Ok, so what's the job market like for an American with a background in EMS/safety? I'd been considering going back up to Asia (I'm in Australia right now) but I think I'd like to go work in South America somewhere instead. My Spanish sucks since I haven't used it in so long but I'm sure some of it would come back if I were immersed in it.

Thanks, I haven't seen that site before.

I actually spent two weeks in Costa Rica last month and was surprised by how much Spanish I remembered. :)

Just out of curiosity, what are the chances of getting hired by any companies once down there? I've pretty much decided that after this contract ends next year I'm going to drive down to Ushuaia. I've got no real ties to anywhere so no problems with moving.

I would have no idea robert. I guess it could happen but was not looking as we traveled. Others may have better answers for you.

We will be crossing into Tierra del Fuego by the weekend, and then into Santiago in a few weeks. Be great to meet some fellow travelers and Chilleans when we get close to Santiago.

I think I may have a Red Top Optima failing in my FJ Cruiser after just about 18 months. I'm hearing that this may an all-too-common issue with the Red Tops. Anybody with a similar issue?

Optima is nowhere near the quality they once were. I've had two fail and know of several others including two that an uncle had. I haven't bought one in ten years since my last died.

Thanks a lot my friend, no , the soil here is dark but in Central Chile there are no Volcanoes, those are located in the north and those actives are in the south of Chile towards Patagonia.

JPVM, Are you living in the 9th region (or 14th (?) since they added a new one)? I live in the 10th. We've been here for about 4 years now, but been in Chile for around 6. Unfortunately, I couldn't see many of the original photos from when you started this thread, but those that I have seen are really nice.

Thought I might share a few of my own as well.

Sorry for the quality of some of these photos. A number of them are from when I first started out in photography.
