$1k cheaper. now that is what i'm talking about:victory:
The guy that posted the tent over on my forum was the owner or importer for the tent.
I thought it was pretty crappy though of him to copy Mike's text word for word on the FAQ.

It is an old thread from 2007, but got bumped on December the 1st by the owner of that company in post number 14.

He has since pulled his FAQ since he was contacted.

Wow you seem to be pretty aggressively knocking this brand. I only now realized that the thread was sponsored by Camping Lab also a roof top tent manufacture. Like a politician calling another politician a liar. Tons of the camping and off-road gear we use is either made in part or entirely in China and I’d bet a dime to the dollar that every tent canopy from ARB or all the other RTT guys is also made there. You just cannot get affordable industrial sewing done in the US. China or not I was impressed. I am not familiar with the ARB version but one of my friends has the Eezi-Awn Series 3 and he paid $2,700 for this tent. I paid half as much and it is easily better in quality and overall usefulness. They double stitched everything, reinforced all the corners with the 1200g travel cover material (whatever that is), triple bolted the straps to the frame so they don’t tear. These guys are clearly campers. But hey bash away.

I'm not knocking any brand let alone China. I don't even have a RTT nor have I ever seen one outside of a picture on the internet. So, I am eager to see someones (yours) if you have your Tepui tent still.

As pointed out earlier, that Tepui photochopped their logo over what looks like a different brand than what is shown in their own video, or picture on their home page. Just curious as to what you received when you ordered yours. Do you have any pictures you could provide to help me out here?

Anyone here have one, or ever poked around at this brand of RTT?
www.tepuitents.com

It looks like the ARB units but a bit cheaper in price.

I know I'm a little late to the thread but I got one of the Tepui Tents over thanksgiving on E-bay during a pre-sale and think it is great. I've never seen any other brand in person but this tent has absolutely no quality issues. Especially compared to a regular ground tent, it is seriously waterproof. We were camping for about two days in the rain and not a drop in the tent, not a drop. The rain fly is raised up on a separate frame which helps I'm sure but the fabric is just much heavier and better than I am used to plus it has a canopy style entrance. (I got the Autana) I don't really care where it is made just as long as the quality is good and so far I am very impressed with this tent. Plus I would have never bought one for $1500 but for $985 it finally made me take the leap. I think they are $1300 now so I got a screaming deal. I give it two thumbs up!!!

Thanks for the insight.

I'm sure following this thread will be a series of posts questioning your first post.

$985 sounds like a nice deal and worth it IMO. Can you post some pics?

No, not bashing the Tepui brand or chinese products, just challenging the asserion that it's US made. As with any purchase, you decide what is a priority to you, compare you're options, and make the purchase.

INSAYN, Looks like you're close to me, I'm in Salem. I didn't have a Tepui but I do have a Mombasa RTT if you want to come by to see one in person PM me.

Cool. I'm up near Hagg Lake if you know where that is? I'll look into a day trip down your way sometime.

Right on!

Can you be our eyes and take a series of closeup shots of your new Tepui tent in various poses? I'd appreciate it. :ylsmoke:

INSAYN, Sure up by Forest Grove. It's a pretty country drive down to Salem, I like to go thru Dayton, then down 221 and take the Wheatland ferry across the Willamette.

Due to the amount of speculation on this brand of tent I have invited the manufacture to comment on this thread.

First of all thank you for inviting me to this thread. I am more than happy to answer some of these questions.

The story behind the photo-shopped pictures brings back the biggest heart burn to me. We started this company about 24-months ago under the name Rubicon Roof Top Tents and were having our tents manufactured in Venezuela. I knew about the Jeep Rubicon but understood that their trademark would only be relevant in the realm of cars and we should be fine with our tent company name. Well that is correct, however, unbeknown to me in 2001 Chrysler filed “Rubicon” as a trade mark in about 30 different classes including camping chairs, backpacks, sleeping bags, and TENTS. As far as I know they only made one of each 10 years ago with just the name “Rubicon” printed on the side but apparently that is enough to secure their trademark in that field indefinitely.

They essentially boxed in “Rubicon” in the outdoor world and we were advised to change or name hence the photo-shopped pics you see. I see it leads to some confusion and will attempt to replace the pictures in the coming weeks. I have actually come to like the name Tepui Tents better anyway and the new tent models are all named after real Tepui’s found in Venezuela, a 4x4 mecca by the way.

Due to difficulties with fluctuating currency and constant strikes at various ports, manufacturing in Venezuela became too big of a challenge. We opted first to have them manufactured in a facility outside Los Angeles and then began the prototyping nightmare that I am sure other tent manufactures are all too familiar with. In the end yes we did end up in China but we went through 6 different manufactures and 11 prototypes before we were ready to re-enter the market as Tepui Tents.

We vetted every detail, looked at dozens of fabric samples, and field tested every feature before finalizing our designs. I understand there is some bad sentiment about producing these tents in China but we have an agent whose sole job is to inspect these tents before they are shipped as well as look over and implement or design changes in real time which is very important as we are introducing two new models this spring.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion behind our tents. I am confident that anyone who has actually seen or used these tents in person will vouch for their genuine quality. I hope to see you on the trails.

Cheers,
Evan

Welcome to Expedition Portal, and thank you for your explanation. Manufacturing any product is challenging and Roof Top Tents are very complex. I'm sure you have accumulated more knowledge from this journey than you ever anticipated.

I hope we can look forward to more input from you in the future.

Kookulkan,
I see you joined the forum here yesterday. Let me say welcome to the portal. I hope you learn as well as contribute here on one of the best over landing forums available.
I just wanted to point out that Equipt Expedition Outfitters is the US Importer of the Eezi-Awn tent line here in the US. And just FYI, Eezi-Awn is made 100% in South Africa and not China. Not that there is anything wrong with Chinese manufacturing!

Cheers,

Yes thank you. I have never actually been a forum person before but recently when I decide to finally lift my 4Runner I was lost as to what works and what doesn't. I stumbled on some of the most useful information from people who had done it and in the process became hooked to reading off road gear threads and joining different online groups. It has definitely not been good for my day job though. I'll upload some pics when it stops raining (could be a week from what I hear) and I can setup and get some good photos.
