IH made some pretty cool trucks in their day and they are the reason I became a Ford F-series fan (IH diesels). As for the pre 80's pickups and scouts I don't know which is best for your needs but I would shoot for a later model and get the V8 if you can because I don't think any of the IH motors were known for great fuel economy so you might as well have some horse power. Look for the D44 front axle in the Scout and the Dana 60 (although they are hard to find) front in the truck...

Plus I think the overhaul recomendation on the 345 and 392 V8's were something like 75 years or 1 million miles whichever comes first LOL :hehe: :bike_rider:

What International model are you looking at exactly? I have owned and/or worked on a few. My current count is 7 I think. They range from a 1944 M-24 to a 1978 Loadstar 1700 4x4.

It all depends on what use you have in mind for the vehicle. Also you have to take in to consideration the newest IH is from 1980. There are a few models to choose from. Scout, Travelall, and pickup.

Shortbus, did you ever get that Travelall ambulance out of KC? If so do you have some pics?

Yeah I got it home. I lost the clutch in my dually about 40 miles east of Rock Springs WY. Limped it in, got a hotel room and spent a few days there. It happened on a Sat about 2 pm so I had to wait until monday to even get a shop to fix it. Got it fixed and left town about 3 Tuesday afternoon. A u-joint started going out east of Reno, got it fixed at a chevy dealer in Colfax. I had my three kids with me too. Lots of fun. I got some pictures of it I will have to post. I think I am going to do a cummins conversion on it. Right now I am trying to find some rear quarter glass for it. I think I found a complete 67 T-all with good glass for about what I would pay for the quarter glass. I am going to go look at it next week.

OK here is my list of current Internationals.
1) 1972 Loadstar 1700 4x4 Bus, its an old Airforce bus, about 22' long.
2) 1944 M-2-4
3) 1966 Travelall 144" wheelbase Ambulance
4) 1970 Loadstar 1600 crewcab, old Airforce rig
5) 1978 Loadstar 1700 4x4, going to combine with above
6) 1972 Travelall
7) 1968 Loadstar 1600 4x4 dumptruck, old county road rig

Like I say when it comes to Internationals you can't have just one. My first one was when I was 16, it was a 66 Scout. Have owned a few since then.

I've had a '62 turbo Scout 80, a '75 Scout II 345 Auto, a 1970 800B with 392/Auto/Dana300, a '70 Traveler w 392/T-19/D300...I LOVE SCOUTS! Solid vehicles, probably the best off road climbing vehicles out there (the IHC V-8 puts a LOT of weight over the front wheels!). The Scout II's are great all around vehicles...ride, handling, steering, braking...all up to modern standards.

I will probably add another Scout soon!

I'm still waiting for mine to be finished. Supposedly, it's in the shop in Dallas being fitted with the TBI system and getting new manifolds or something like that.

Hopefully, soon! I want to make a campers out of it, I think. That way, I can have an RV in my apartment complex (I'm allowed up to two vehicles) without having to store it, like I would have to with a trailer.

It's a 1977 Scout II, IH Flame Red with a white top. You know where you've heard about it...

As mentioned above, it depends on your needs, but as someone who has owned many, scout 80, scout II, travelall, 1210 crew cab. I started learning on my grandfathers 65 stepside 3 on the tree, I wont drive anything else.

1973 1210 crewcab, loved that thing

Needed something smaller for Washington trails so I went with the 77' Scout Terra.

Where did you get that front bumper on the Terra? I really like the look of it for my 79 Scout II.

I used to work with an old boy that had a Scout diesel. I want to say it was a Datsun/Nissan powerplant. I wish I had pictures. It was bone stock, meticulously maintained. White with some stripes as I recall, looked like he drove it off the show room floor.

Nissan SD33, inline 6 diesel, got pretty good mileage and with a turbo had decent performance.

Just saw an old Scout yesterday and tried to convince her that it was the best truck for her :) My F150 has an IH engine in it.
