I did some searches and didn't see anything like this so thought I'd start one. The idea is to post up the uses of ammo cans (on your rig or not) and dimensions/pics of them.

I find the smaller ones (first three) are great for first aid kits as they are water tight and protect items from being crushed. I also use one of the larger sized ones for all my recovery straps and tie downs

Ok, you have my attention... I have a built a PA amplifier with 2- 7 amp rechargeable batteries into an ammo box.I have built a pair of batteries into another box with various connectors. Also added hasps to ammo cans for secure storage. I guess I'll have to take some shots of my project ammo boxes.:coffee:

4 .50cal cans have tire chains (2 per can)
4 .30cal have grade 70 chains (1 per can)
1 .30cal has chainsaw tools, spare chains, air filters etc.

My camper van had the M249 can already mounted to the underside of the driver's seat with the lid facing forward when I bought it. I keep the ratcheting tie-down straps for the motorcycle rack and an assortment of bungee cords in it.

I've got a 249 can bolted to the running board of my tractor. Keep a chain, couple of wrenches, and some spare keeper pins in it.

Also have a .50cal one for chain saw stuff.

Great items for just about anything!

I've donated a few to some neighborhood kids who do 'Kid Cacheing', geo-cacheing aimed at getting kids and parents out into the parks/woods.

And , of course, I keep ammo in them:elkgrin:

You mean besides for ammo?

I have used a 20mm can for used wagbags before. That 81mm mortar can looks good if tacos are on the menu. :sombrero:
