Interior fit out - what are the practicalities of white interior

There are interior decorating rules for your home that apply to any space. In small spaces you need solid light reflecting colors, white and better yet is egg shell or an off white and a white ceiling will appear higher, regardless of how low it is. Color is added with furnishings. Burgandy and forest green are classic colors that don't really go out of style and blend very well with an egg shell or light sand color. Tans and light browns are guy colors that can work well too. In larger trailers and RVs, throw pillows splash color. An end wall will look further away if it is a darker shade, flat color with lighter colored walls. The placement of mirrors can help open up a space as well, polished stainless steel works too. Color on the floor should be the darkest spot and the eye naturally goes from the bottom upward as you enter an area. Your cushions, counter tops and cabinets should blend with the floor. Then comes lighting. How you illimunate your space will have an impact on how you see it. A bright ceiling light in a small space can make you feel closed in, use softer lighting near living spaces just above eye level so you're not staring at it or have to look away from the direct light. Brighter lights under the kitchen cabinets are best to light up the work space. A good reading light at the dinning area and seating areas will help when needed. Recessed lights at the step and just above the floor on a reastat are nice for late night potty runs without messing up your night vision. Low lighting staggered, not across from each other, will also make your space seem larger. :ylsmoke:

light colors' benefits have already been given. i'll just add even if it does make a bit more housekeeping, that is a positive thing. sanitation is directly connected with good health. being sick on the road is never a good thing!

the color doesn't have to be dead "white" to read white. offwhite tones by the thousands are mixeable and still give you the properties you're seeking. and don't make the ceiling white either. add a drop or two of the walls tint. it does make a difference.

it's all about the nuances
