Removeable rocksliders

Hi guys,
i really want to do some rocksliders now, but I`m not sure how to...

Due our road safety inspections here in germany i can`t weld anything to the frame. So I thought about putting some plates "sandwich" in and out of the frame and clamp the frame between them. Then weld the sliders to the outer plates...

Any suggestions?

Can you do welded nut inserts? Or does that count as welding onto the frame many vehicles have them from the factory. Paint them black like the frame and nobody would ever know :)

Here is what I had on my old rig.
They were removable by taking bolts out of the tubes.
The tube on the slider slipped over tubing welded to the frame.

I had seen this design over on Pirate, and a local guy Badland Bumpers made them for me.

Scroll down aways to see them.

Should be possible, but I don`t think it`s strong enough. I think the frame would bend!?

I've seen lots that are this way. I believe FjCruiers, and Wranglers come this way from the factory.
The trick it to spread the load out over several bolts, that way not one single spot on the frame is doing all the work.

Another option is u bolt around the frame. seen it done, but have no experience with it.

I would make the mounts with rectangular U shape stock so you can slip it over the frame and bolt it at the top. it would have to be a tight fit and securing with bolts at top it could be removed and still pretty strong.

Sorry for the crappy drawing

I had sliders on my 01 Blazer. The slider leg welded to a rectangle piece of 3/16" plate. That fit up against the outside of the frame rail.

I drilled 3 holes in each plate (2 at bottom, 1 at top) and through the frame. There was a matching plate that went inside the frame rail with 3 holes drilled through it. I then ran grade 8 bolts through with nylock nuts.

That worked. I came down HARD on them more than once with no damage to anything other than the paint on the slider. I'll see if I have pictures of this on the other computer and post them up tonight.

This assumes they will let you drill through the frame.

The 4 crawler method is what I'd suggest but if you have a good inspector, they will know that you've added a sleeved hole onto the frame.

OK, it's been a long time since I had my car inspected in Germany, but while I there we built some cars and modified buggies. Pans were welded on VWs. Trailer hitch was welded to the frame. Have you asked another inspector?
I remember the guy taking a screw driver and trying to jam a whole through the floor looking for rust. They are tuff. Are you in the service over there with an MP doing it? Go off post.

How would they attach running boards to an american truck taken over there by a service member?

Hi,
these days its illegal to weld something to the frame. If its rusted you can weld on a new patch, but you're not allowed to weld something new to the frame...

Oh, and I'm a native german, so i don't know anything about how the US Army guys would do this...

The very first set of rock sliders that I ever built for my truck were this exact design. I used 1/4" plate to back the slider mounting plates and used 3/8" grade 8 bolts to fasten them. They held up to years of abuse.

Thanks guys...

I think I know how I`ll do it, but will have a final look and measurement on monday...

Another thing is that i want to incorporate something to attach the hilift to the sliders to lift the car stable. Any suggestions on that?
