That would be kind of an interesting idea if I understand your description (4runamok). So you would have the structural integrity of the steal but have a bolt on finished structure that would be aluminum to save weight. Is that what you were describing? That would be pretty cool to see.

Seems you both get exactly what I'm thinking.
You have the sub-structure slightly wider than the frame itself, with winch shelf and clevis's built on the steel, a bolt on aluminum finish, with the opening for the winch, and two openings for the clevis's, and maybe some strong aluminum gussets that attach to the steel sub-structure.
If I wasn't tired, and I knew the measurements, I'd draw this up in cad for you.
