    Default Tundra Questions

    Gentlemen,

I am new to the forums and i hope i have not overlooked this question already. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me if they have ever successfully been able to put a rack of some kind over their cab of their tundras? I have an '01 and am currently trying to build it into an expedition worthy vehicle. Your help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Semper P

If you look at the thread just down below with all the tundra pictures, there are a couple in there with racks on the cab.

Perhaps you're looking for something a bit like this?

If I never had to park in a deck I'd be all over it.

This was exactly what i'm talking about. Has anyone seen them on gen 1 tundras? Is there a way to mount them up there?

And ol' Scott, Thanks for the craigslist link. I have never thought about putting a utility rack over a camper shell. Have you ever seen an expedition vehicle with a rack like that?

Thanks to all for posting back. I'm glad to have found this forum and an area where people with 1st gen tundras can share some ideas.

    Take care!

I think you can probably make a Yakima basket fit:

Here's pic of one mounted on a T100

Curious to see what you come up with - it is on my long range plan of things to do.

    USCG?

There are very few racks mounted on 1st Gen Tundra's. I have a '00 and have been thinking of having something made that will accommodate my shell and overhang the cab 2ft or so. Check out this Pirate 4x4 Chase truck thread. Most of the trucks are SuperDuty's and 2500+ but you can get some ideas if that is what you want. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=808342

When I was in Alaska this past summer trucks with utility racks over their camper shells were EVERYWHERE. No kidding, every place we went there were at least 2 or 3 trucks with the racks like that so it's certainly been done and is being done. It would certainly be a good option for a RTT or to store other items up high since the weight is on the rack and not the shell.
