My brother has an 01' extended cab Dakota with the 4.7L V8. Plenty of power for the lil truck, but overall I have not been very impressed. Plus what Kya said, aftermarket parts are rare for the Dakotas. I would say go Tacoma or Frontier over the Dakota, but Rangers have plenty of aftermarket parts, and the desert scene beats em up pretty good, so IMO, don't rule them out.
