So what's the story on it? Does it run ok? Any known problems? Need more descriptions than that to give you a valid opinion.

Check the carfax on the vehicle for hints in its history. it's not 100% accurate but may shed some light if something is abnormal about this rig.

Also, check the following areas...

1) 4WD operation: Does it shift into 4wd (4wd light on)? Does it shift out of 4wd (4wd light off)? A blinking light when shifting out of 4wd means the central axle disconnect is not fully disconnecting. May mean it needs to be replaced (unlikely) or you need to cycle it more to loosen it up so it can fully release (more likely). This is seen occasionally and usually in rigs that have rarely been driven in 4wd.

2) Rear Air Locker operation: With the transfer case in 4WD Low, push the Rear Dif Lock switch located at the bottom left of the center console (below the radio/ac area). Does the Dif Lock light on your dash turn on? While stopped, crank the steering wheel all the way in one direction while in park. Roll down both windows and put the gear in drive and move forward. Do you hear one of the tires slipping/skidding? If so, then the locker is locked. Now press the diff lock switch again and check that the light in the dash turns off. Doublecheck that the diff lock disengages by cranking the wheel to one direction fully again and driving forward to check if one of the tires skids. If it doesn't then the diff lock has disengaged.

3) Valve Guide Seals: Does it smoke right after a cold start or after idling for a few minutes? Rev the engine when you first start it or after it's been idling a few minutes. If it's already warm you may not see anything if you start it but letting it idle for a few minutes then revving the engine will reveal if this is a problem. The cause is usually worn valve guide seals. Repair requires either removal of valves (head removal required) or use of a valve spring compressor to remove the upper half of valve (head removal not required) to R&R the valve guide seals. Most know how to do it the first way. Most don't know how to do it the 2nd way which is the quicker/cheaper way.

4) Engine tuned up: When was the last tune up & did they use iridium plugs (50-100k miles) or platinum plugs (30-40k miles)? Most shops will remove the intake manifold to access all 6 spark plugs which means $$$$. It can be done without doing that but most don't know how.

5) Fluids: When was the last time they replaced the transmission, engine oil, transfer case, and front/rear differential fluids? Regardless of what they tell you, I recommend changing them all and potentially even doing a fluid flush on the transmission. Make sure you use either OEM Mitsu transmission fluid or fluid you can VERIFY works with this transmission. the wrong fluid WILL DESTROY your transmission so be VERY careful on this point.

HTH.

The guy in Phili wants 3900 but may be negotiable he sent some pics showing the body is not as great as he claimed but still seems interesting. If it runs well how much is a fair price?
