If you are around Pigeon Forge TN make sure and eat at either restaurant that is on apple valley road. Both are worth the trip.
Edit- also look for coupons to Lodge cast iron factory stores for a 10.25 inch skillet for $4.95.

Have you found a place to park around Washington DC yet? If not I'm sure someone in the Mid Atlantic Overland group on facebook can help you out.
Fairfax County Virginia (west of DC) is a pretty easy place to boondock if needed. How long do you need a place to park?

AFTER ALMOST 15 YEARS ON THE ROAD...

After almost 15 years on the road, one of the most common questions is when are we going to finish with our nomad life.
We work en route. We have a house on wheels, with a bed, a small stove, food, water and tools. We do things in a different way. We have escaped from the rat race, from the tics of this consumer society and have no intention of returning there. Our most valuable posession is our freedom, and we are not going to give it up.

Cheers from New Orleans, preparing our body for Mardi Gras!

14 YEARS AGO OUR TRIP AROUND THE WORLD STARTED TO BE AN ADVENTURE

Today, 14 years ago, we where landing in Wadi Halfa, Sudan. That was not tourism any more. That day the trip started to be an adventure. That was what many years later we started to call AROUND THE WORLD IN 10 YEARS.

Now, almost on year 15, our overland trip is still where it should be: On the road.

HOUSTON, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM

Free Travel Presentation, Sponsored by Hostelling International

Travel Author Series:
Around the World in 10 Years!
by Pablo Rey & Anna Callau

On year 2000, Pablo Rey (Buenos Aires) and Anna Callau (Barcelona) quit their jobs and rented out their apartment in Spain to travel around the world during four years. Four somehow turned into fifteen. The couple, living out of their small 4WD van, a.k.a. La Cucaracha, has travelled 220,000 miles, passing through 60 countries, with no end in sight.

After leaving Southern Europe, these committed nomads have driven through the Middle East, Africa —from North to South, the entire American continent —from Tierra del Fuego (at the Southern tip of Patagonia) to the Arctic Ocean in Alaska, before settling in for a couple of years of discovery in North America. Getting here was no small feat. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean from South Africa to Argentina in a fishing vessel, survived elephant and Kalashnikov attacks in Africa and paddled down an Amazon river in a 6-log wooden raft. Their engine broke down in the middle of the Sudanese Sahara and froze at 15,000 feet during a very cold winter in the Bolivian Altiplano, and that’s just scratching the surface.

In 15 years they have met, shared food and stayed with some truly amazing and hospitable people. Whether in a house, hut, tent or under the stars, the take away is the same, in whatever culture, remove the dogma and indoctrination and you realize that we are all the same, one big human family living in a beautiful, albeit fragile, Earthly home.

Pablo has written three books in Spanish; one has been translated into English, Around the World in 10 Years: The Book of Independence, available at Kindle and Amazon.com. Their webpage at www.viajeros4x4x4.com is filled with first-hand information for closeted travelers who dream of starting a new life or, at least, taking a sabbatical.

When will it end? What a silly question….

15 YEARS ON THE ROAD! PABLO AND ANNA COMIC STRIP Nº3

Comic_003.jpg

In 15 years we've been through 3 different presidents (in Spain and in the United States), the DotCom crisis, the Lehman Brothers Crisis, the Greek Crisis, the Argentinean Corralito, four mechanical breakdowns in places you really don't want to break down (the Sahara Desert, Sibiloi National Park, the Altiplano, in the middle of the Andes), assaults, robberies and armed hostilities (you'll read about this in the book that's currently being translated); we ate insects and elephant meat, walked amongst lions without a gun, crossed the South Atlantic Ocean in a fishing vessel, and went into a cave in Africa where people had been infected with ebola. We sailed down an Amazon river in a 6 log wooden raft, and hitch-hiked on a ship to cross between Colombia and Panama. Our 4WD van was named La Cucaracha, we got married in Las Vegas in a drive-thru chapel, and now, after 15 years on the road, we'll have to survive being caricatured by a funny illustrator...
