Peter, you really do outstanding work, the range of skills is impressive.

I've collected custom knives for 25+ years and even though I'm trying to cut back I still get tempted. In January I got on the list for a fighter by Jason Knight, a fellow with his Master Smith rating. It was for 1 of 10 fighters designed by my friend Joe Paranee. The sheath is designed as a cross draw and made by Paul Long. Not really a "practical" knife in a camp/utility sense but my collection is eclectic.

The blade is 8 3/4" of hand forged W2 steel, satin finish with some forging marks. This is wicked sharp, including the clip. Handle is Natural Canvas Micarta.

EDC...... folding or fixed blade, what is your choice and why.

As for me I have been EDC before the term existed and most people were not prone to having a knife or knives on there person on a daily basis. For over the 50 yrs. I have been carrying a knife I have owned an still own slip joint Case, Robeson Swiss armys and others, locking (by many means) Spyderco, Benchmade, CRKT, Kershaw and the like also and fix blades for hunting/camping etc. I have come to find for a few years now my primary EDC is a small fix blade ( 3" or less) with a kydex sheath to be my EC choice. Why? Well I have been cut and have had various failures by folding slip joint knives and liner lock and other locking styles that have become gummed up in the process of using them over and over in situations where proper knife care was not possible. work, military situations come to mind (do not drop a complex Swiss army knife in fine sand/mud... you will understand) No matter how much you try to keep them clean sometimes you just can't. Getting old and tired of those things so...... for me A good fixed blade ( your choice of brand/cost) will never bind, fold on your knuckles or jam in anyway, wipe it off or not it is safe and with a proper Kydex carry system it will never fall out of a pocket or suffer from a bent pocket clip (bend one and you..... if you do not lose the knife will find reshaping a clip in the bush rather troublesome) Given that any blade should be touched up from time to time that is about the only care in hard use situations a fix blade needs they are also much stronger, with no moving parts to break. For "Social" purposes a fix blade deploys quicker, for me at least anyway. Now having said this I always have a small folder with me for every day nail cleaning, apple peeling etc. and not to scare any non knife people by hauling out a fix blade when asked "can you cut this for me, do you have a knife?" I do take care of all my knives when back from the bush as one should tho. What do any of you think? Chime in. mjmcdowell

wow, some amazing stuff here, I do love my cheap bear grylls blades however. also, what is a good swiss army knife? using for camping, hunting, adventuring. There is one at Walmart for 37 dollars, looks like it has most of what I would use out around.

The one I've seen at Wal mart has been the Super Tinker by Victorinox, which is the model I've carried daily since the mid 80's. It has things I actually use, nothing I've never used, and I seem to use it almost every day for something. It's also small enough to pocket carry comfortably.

I have tried a lot of swiss army knives, and this one is my favorite. Have one in every vehicle and easy to carry in a pocket.
