I have the Warn Powerplant. After several light uses over a year period, the thermal sensor went bad. It left my buddy in a real fix, his rig being inverted. We got the rigging configured, pushed the button and nothing.

Apparently the thermal sensor was a very common problem with the early powerplants. Warn even has a "kit" with instructions to fix it. They quickly sold me the new sensor, so now my $1500 winch works properly.

The M8000 is such a value. I've used mine a few times and it just works.

With the current $80.00 mail-in rebate, a new M8000 can be had for about $460.00, quite a deal.

Thanks Warn for helping to make this Forum possible !

I hope to put my M8000 to the test this summer !

I absolutelnty love my 8274. The line speed gets me in trouble sometimes cuz of the speed. I eventually want to double up the motor.

We just added the fifth Warn winch into the family and enjoyed the rebate.

Currently we have 2, M12000's, an 8274, an M8000 for a rear bumper and a past 9500 TI. Warn has always treated me well and has never let me down. Including a multiple angle pull (Strapped snatch blocks) on a snowy Fordyce Creek Tr. one night when we got caught in a surprise Sierra snowstorm. I winched four out of the six vehicles up that portion that night. After that, I had passengers from other rigs trying to talk my passenger out of his front seat.

My new to me Super Duty needs a winch now. Any guess as to the Brand?

Good job on you Warn.

Spekaing of WARN not letting people down. I decided to custom mount their 10k behind the bumper in my 03 ram 1500 because there is no off the shelf solution for the larger winches only for the smaller sizes. I originally was going to base it off a mounting plate from superwinch because it was cheaper, but when i called them for dimensions they said they couldnt give me that information as they didnt want people just copying their design. Well scratch them off my list. Looked at the warn plate which cost more money, no dimensions listed online, call warn and speak to a tech who tells me the approx dimensions but asks me to hold for a minute so he can get the exact specs for me. I wait and in less than a minute i am given the exact dimensions to i think 3 decimal places even. Then he asks what i'm building with it and i explain the custom mount i am doing with the winch hanging upside down, the tech then explains to me how to properly clock the motor and clutch handle to get them in the right position. Service like this makes WARN the only brand for me. I own an 8k (on my jeep) the 10k is currently in my ram, although i just picked up a power wagon 12k which will move up front (with a redesigned mount) and the 10k will go into the back bumper.

So for anyone who has been on the fence about spending sometimes a little more money for the WARN products, do it as the products and the people will take care of you.

I just had my 3rd failure of a Warn Premium hub (part #20990). The last one had less than 500 miles on it. The failures have all occured offroad. They are always unlocked on the street. My axle has a detroit locker. Do I just have bad luck? Do you have something beyond "premium" in terms of strength and reliability?

I rebuild my 9k warn winch, and I must say thier parts web site is great! They give you a nice exploded view so you can locate and identify the parts you need to replace. Its based off the numbers on the winch so you KNOW your getting the exact part you need.

I used to think all winches where created equil, until I needed to replace some parts on another brand I wont mention. talk about a pain in the butt to just find the parts I needed. Then I rebuilt the warn, it had a hard life in its previous owners hands, but all the parts I needed where easy to find. once it was done I discovered not only was it 1000lbs more pulling power but faster and didnt draw as much power doing so. I now have 3 warn winches my 9k, a 12k that needs a tiny bit of work and a 12k that needs a lot of work LOL. I plan on getting the first 12k ready and mount it on my 94 chevy K1500. And havent really made a plan for the other 12k YET.

Thanks Warn!

Hmm ... it sounds like there is definitely something going on that isn't right. Please give our Customer Service Specialists a call at 800-543-9276. They should be able to help you get to root cause here. That shouldn't be happening.

I figure this is the best place to ask,,,is it possible to use the synthetic rope from an Olympus winch on the 16.5ti? I just purchased a 16.5ti and would prefer to use synthetic line, and black synthetic goes with my color scheme better,,lol
