Curious what you are doing without recovery points on rear bumper?

I just put the pin from my receiver hitch through the loop in my strap. I haven't bent one yet, though I understand that they are hard to remove if you do.

There are several companies out there that make reciever hitch recovery points. (Viking, MasterPull, Warn etc.) I have not found one that uses the same sized shackles that come with the SMB from the factory. I currently just use an straight hitch with a shackle, though the load rating is probably much less then the purpose built units.

We had a couple of recovery points built into our bumper during manufacture. We figured that if we got stuck, likely we would prefer to go back where we came from, rather than further in.

They also provide good locations for stabilizing our motorcycle carrier (other folks weld additional receivers on, which could provide for similar functionality).

My only reason for bringing up is I don't have tabs on my bumper and have heard doubts about ratings of hitch mounts.

I wouldn't worry about a hitch. As long as it's really tied in well (as it should be) it's going to have significantly more welded/purchase area attaching it to the frame or bumper than pad eyes on a bumper.

I just completed my new bumper and added two extra hitches for a winch/recovery setup. I will be putting warn shackle hitches or equivalent in them.

The ditch hitch seems like a clunky version of what's already available on the market. If you need more strength go buy some solid 2" square tube, drill it out and buy a big enough shackle to fit. You may need to have a shop drill out for you as the hole for shackle is going to 1" plus.
