Bear Grylls Clothing?

I'm not judging, I just think it's interesting how people view some brands.

Examples? One customer looked at me like I was bonkers for suggesting he consider an Arc'teryx backpack. His reply, "those are poorly designed, cheap, and no one likes them. Do you have any Jansport packs?" Now, to me THAT is nuts. Arc'teryx is about as good as it gets. I think some people just get brands mixed up in their heads.

Another customer said he didn't want anything cheap and crappy like Mountain Hardware. Okay, I guess it's good enough to climb every Himalayan peak but not for this feller. He left with a White Sierra jacket...our price point offering.

We'll even have people say, "These boots are my favorite. I buy a new pair every six months." Okay, why not buy good boots that last? Just sayin'.

We get a lot of, "...I heard those <insert product here> are terrible." This could be said about anything from tent stakes to $800 jackets.

LOL, they must have been thinking of other brands besides what they said. Kooky!

They don't buy better boots because the 6mos ones are their favorite!

Not always. I've had people pick up something as elegant and beautiful as an Arcteryx Altra 65 backpack and say, "Na..this thing is junk." Nuts.

On a regular basis we'll have people holding a cheap, blister packed Gerber multitool in one hand and a burly SOG multi-tool in the other. Many times the SOG will get put back on the shelf with the comment it "looks cheap." Huh? Whah? Or, they'll say, "Never heard of SOG, so how could could it be?"

I've heard of Yugo before, doesn't mean I want one.

Well at least you get to laugh at work, right?
I thought about a SOG knife, but went with a beefy Kershaw D2. I like to support the local (Chinese) economy.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. I was somewhat speaking to how random opinions of any brand can be, including Bear Grylls stuff. We sell quite a bit of the BG/Gerber stuff. To be honest, none of the people who buy it strike me as genuine backcountry enthusiasts. I also gather that at least Gerber isn't really trying to reach the genuine backcountry enthusiast with that BG branded stuff.

I have a bunch of bear grylls gear. why? cost and availability. Im not a brand snob. I picked up the folding knife, the fixed long blade knife, long sleeve shirt and pants. All gear works great. I recommend it for people who wants quality gear without breaking the bank.

Personally, I always question the quality of anything that has a "celebrity" name on it. It seems like a media upsell to hide a lesser quality product. Make it a little cheaper so we can pay a royalty to .... for using their "brand". I've always thought of Gerber as being a quality product, I just don't want to put more money into the "Bear Gryllis" bank account.

The two long sleeve Bear shirts I own are of very high quality.
I wear them to work and at home.

I bought an orange "survival" knife with a windshield breaker on the end of the handle some time ago. It's labeled BG/Columbia and I think that it was shipped from Hong Kong. For the price it seems like excellent quality and I carried it around in the bottom of my panniers with my first aid kit and tool kit for several years. My part of border Mexico is supposed to be a bit touchy about large knives and the color and windshield breaker seems to be a bit more accepted as a rescue tool than as something to use in a knife fight.

As I said, I have a bunch of bg stuff. wife bought me a pair of pants for xmas, but they sent the wrong size. I have to re order as shipping back to UK to get the correct size would be pointless and costly.

Im just going to order the correct size.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but BG clothing is made by Cragghoppers. Some high quality stuff for sure.

A little update, I have been in the bush a few times with my bf pants now and they are holding up great. I love them and my bg shirt. Both are quality prices of clothing.

Funny, I find myself increasingly more and more just wearing my Railriders garments all the time now. Other clothes worn come and go - short life span, but the Railriders continue to hang tough. Definitely have gotten my monies worth with them.

I have one of his catalogs, and the pants look a lot like the Extreme Adventure Pants that I buy from Railriders.

The Bear clothing looks to be pretty good quality as well.
I am very happy with the above pants from Railriders, you might check them out too.
Wearing a pair right now while at work.
