Flippac Windows

I got the green light and it looks like I'll be changing from my RTT to an AT Flippac here soon. I've got one issue that I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on. Should I add side windows or not?

We decided to move to the Flippac because it will allow us to take the dogs along and reduce our dependency on a dog sitter. I like the extra security of no side windows, but should I add them for the extra circulation?

Just as a reference, my "small" dog is 70 lbs and the other is 130 lbs.

If the dogs will be riding back there it may be nice to have the windows. If not, the windows serve no purpose. You end up just needing to cover them with curtains. At camp with the Flippac open there is plenty of circulation with all the windows in the tent.

Windoors, both sides, so much easier to get at gear.


Can always install curtains or super dark tint for a "false sense" of security, since most thieves have no problem smashing out the rear window to get at your goods. Ask me how I know...

That has been a consideration... it would make it easier to strap my stuff down without climbing in and out. You make a good point with the false sense of security, although I'm hoping my new rear bumper plans would address that. I think the windows are going to need to happen in some form or I will never hear the end of it from my wife.

Any personal experiences offered are appreciated since I must get this order right the first time or else...

Not FlipPac specific, but I like having side windows in my 'Nest. When you pack up the tent wet, you can leave the side and front sliding window open. This provides a ton of air flow through the camper as you drive and does a pretty good job drying things out. I would definitely consider them and the windoors would be an even better option.

The security aspect is relative, like was mentioned, the huge glass rear window with flimsy aluminum frames on camper shells isn't exactly much challenge to open. Shell security is more about the use of expanded metal sheets.

If you are going to have the dogs in back while driving or parking (not camping) I would say some form of side window, if even on one side (like pass. side so you can see out looking over your shoulder while driving). This way you can let air in, especially if you have to stop and go into a store with the dogs left in the bed. If they are riding inside the cab, it's a crapshoot which is better. Windoors do seem to be a good option for access.

I just talked with Martyn and he suggested a windoor on the passager side and no window on the other. Hadn't really thought of a window on only one side.

I would do both sides, just for sake of convenience .

Do theirs have vents as well or are solid glame? I looked on the website, the photos weren't working for me.

I hear ya, but right now I'm looking to stay below $5500 total and at $375 each that is hard to do. I believe they vent and open.
