Red River, NM and the Canadian River

The best map I have found is available locally in Red River. There are a few mentions of these trails on the internet, but take quite a bit of looking.

Here are a couple for Greenie Peak and Goose Lake:

NM Offroad has some info, too:

All of the New Mexico portions are NFS land, so you will need to look for their camping regulations. I know folks camp at both Cabresto and Goose Lakes.

As far as the Canadian River area goes, there are no maps, aside from what you get with USGS quads and they don't show trails. I have been off-roading that area for 10+ years and use my experience to dictate where I go. All that is required for camping in this area is finding a spot off of the beaten track to have some quiet as there can be some vehicles out at night. NOTE: You will need a Texas OHV sticker for the Canadian River area. Any of the motorcycle shops in Amarillo should be able to get you set up.

If you have some more questions, let me know which area you are interested in and I will try to help you out.

I 2nd the Goose Lake idea. It's absolutely beautiful there. Cabresto Lake is closed until November for re-construction of the dam there FYI.

Good info. I will be heading to the Red River area in a few weeks.

I'll be heading to Goose 3 weeks from tonight. It'll be my 3rd time running the trail at night(a blast!) and my 1st there this year. We attempted it back on May 31st, but deep snow didn't allow it.
