M416 Tail Gate Ideas

Expo,

This idea may have been beaten to death, but I'm trying to come up with a tail gate either myself or local trailer builder can fab. I recently saw a thread on Sierra 4x4 trailers and LIKE the way their tail gates are made. I'd like to incorporate a latch that locks but that is just an add on.

The best Tailgate I have seen on a 416 is in the picture sticky. They took a CJ5 / CJ7 Tailgate and modified the trailer to accept it. Looked awesome!

I agree I have guys call all the time to cut in tail gates, its their trailer but hate doing it.

Have been thinking about this a lot... not sure if I am going to put one in now. Was dead set on it when I bought the trailer, now not so sure. Hard to keep water/dust out, less structurally rigid, more complexity and cost.

For now...lid and some can storage, maybe a tongue box.

Here's what I did with with my trailer, at first I wasn't going to do it but once I saw a friend of mine's it was time to get it done. It's plenty sturdy so there's no movement at all, it makes things easy to load/unload (especially for the wife). It uses regular auto weather stripping around the lid and gate which keeps out all the unwanted and keeps it from rattling. See my build link below for the pics and details.
