Just a few photos from a beach trip to Edisto Island, SC. Absolutely stunning place, very secluded, I think I did about 150 miles of beach riding in a lazy week there. We found a beach that is also a nature preserve that has been untouched since the 1800's, which really means that this beach was how the colonists and settlers found it. The rising sea has been slowly swallowing the forest, so there are trees in the surf. It is a surreal place. I'll let the photos do most of the talking:

How are you liking the Lauf with the fattie? Many miles on it yet?
So far I like the lauf with this summer set up 26x4.0 on 44mm and I'm looking forward to using it this winter with my Studded D5 on 90mm. I don't have a real mountain bike so the Fatback gets single track and bikepacking duties. Like others I don't think a fatbike with a lauf is the best for single track, but it will put a smile on your face if you are upgrading from ridged fatbike. The last few winters we have had tremendous freezing rain events. Hikers, moose and dog teams beat the trails up when they re-freeze. I hope the lauf will take the edge off ice washboards and post holes and will report back how well it works at lower psi in the winter.

I think the only thing I would change on the bike now are the summer wheels with the advancement of the 27.5+ tire options. But the Jumbo Jims 4.0 are doing just fine and I can still ride beaches and dunes if I air down. I do miss the fork mounted anything cages for bikepacking.

We have had some fun builds at our bike collective. Here is a sample. Hope everyone can make it to Bike Bike 2016 in Detroit.

Those Yakotas were nice riding bikes. One of the best riding bikes I've ever owned was a 2001 Specialized S-Works E5-Columbus road bike in Aqua e Sapone team colors. Welded by Gary Yakota. Loved that bike. Wish I had kept it. Mario Cipolini colors (zebra).

The Yakota got built up right before the midnight sunburn bike polo tournament in Anchorage and some of the visiting players got to take it out into the front range of the Chugach Mountains up Power Line Pass. Most of the bikes we get are WalMart bikes but our wrenches try to keep the classics rolling.

Just got back from a month in Peru and I'm hitting the trails around Willow Alaska. Lots of new snow for the folks running the Susitna 100 and ITI this year. I got 3rd in the biking section of the Sven Erikson 25K race. Must have been in shape from the trekking I did at elevation.
