Default Remove Front Seats From Rails? Tacoma '04

    Hey -

What's the trick to removing a front seat from the mounting (adjustable slide) rail? I have the seat out of the truck, but I can't figure out how to release the rails and slide the seat off of the rails. It looks like it ought to be simple....

I'm experimenting with different configurations for the rear passenger area in a double cab. We'd like to run one seat back there with room for a cooler and some additional equipment. I have the front seats from our first truck (totaled), and it looks like one would fit well if it was removed from the tracks.

    Thanks in advance,

    Howard L. Snell

    You don't.

Wasn't made to come apart like that. Once its assemble it is either spot welded or crimped so it will never come apart.

I haven't messed with that new of truck but many Japanese seats you will find some 12mm bolts that hold the slider mechanism to the seat.

    Thumbs up Drill or grind!

I've see a write up, but can't find it right now on TTORA where a guy intalled some Volvo S40 leather seats into a Tacoma. He had to drill out/ grind the spot weld to remove the rails from the seat. It can be done with a bit of time, patience and tools.
    Cheers,

Edit found the link: 2000 Celica seat install by hytenor on TTORA.

    Default Thanks

Thanks - on one hand I'm happy that I wasn't overlooking something simple as I feared. On the otherhand, disappointed that I'll have to get drastic.

The other alternative is to try making a stock rear bench into a 1/3 stock rear bench by cutting the seat frame just inboard of the hinge for the folding seat back. We have a "spare" rear bench seat from the totaled truck as well as the "spare" front seats. I'll keep you posted.

    Best Wishes,

    Howard L. Snell
