M416 Axle selection help

Hi guys,

I just purchased an M416 that I plan on fixing up into a camping/expedition trailer. I am currently running 35x12.5x17 wheels, which are 7.5" wide with a 47.3 mm offset, and I would like to run these same wheels/tires on the trailer so I only carry one spare.

I know reading the owners manual I found online here that the axle width on the M416 trailer as it sits is 58.75" with a tub that measures 41" wide, and 4.5" wide wheels.

Now if I do the math, and I am trying to get the same clearance between the tire and the tub (about 4.375"), then I will need an axle width of 71.235", or a standard 71" axle. Does this seem correct?

I am thinking of upgrading to a 3500 lbs. axle with brakes. Any recommendations???

Pull two wheels, Place them beside the trailer with the required tub to sidewall spacing, measure
the distance between the mounting surfaces of the wheels.
Measure the distance center pin to pin on he springs.
identify the correct bolt pattern and call the axle builder with all three numbers.

Order your trailer wheels and wait for the items to arrive.
