    Default Project WAR WAG

Here is another project I have been working on. The vehicle is a retired Military M1028 Chevrolet 1 1/4 ton with a Detroit Diesel. She has a HD Turbo 400 mated to a NP208 transfercase. Axles are a Corporate 14 bolt rear with a Detroit Locker and a Dana 60 King Pin with a Limited Slip. I have in the cab a full Off Road Designs 4" lift with all the upgraded goodies. my friend and I were going to do the lift but he has since moved. I am going to try and tackle it this weekend. The other mod planned is installing a Caravan Camper shell I have in my back yard. Ive had it for 6 years knowing one day I would beable to use her. Glad I kept it. Ive also started to modify the front grill to add a Warn Winch. This calls for a new frame cross member up front to add a few more connection points for the winch. Ive also added some 12 bolt H1 rims. The tires for now are the older Wrangler II tires. I have many many sets of these and are on the now to see how things fit before the lift. I plan on running the new 37 BAJA MTs after the lift is installed. A fresh coat of OD paint and all new window trim and doors seals will round out this build. Please bare with me as I am gone for months at a time for work. I have pretty much everything to build her but the time. So stay tuned.

    Mike

Ive had the M1028 since last winter. My wife and I have had several local trips in her and just love how simple the truck is. I will be adding several more pictures of the "little" mods ive done. Mainly stuff like replacing all of the glow plugs, New 200 amp starter relay in place of the cruddy 40 amp stock one. I also had to add a rear license plate mount and used "Lite N Boltz" to make her legal. Anyway here are some more pics

Nice truck, and I'm digging the HUMVEE rims. Are you using spacers with those?

Yes. I am using 2" spacers. They work great. You just need to inspect them after the first 100 miles and retorque them to specs. Other than that they are great.

YUP. I installed the Glow plugs last year. One of my first mods as well as the new 200 amp starter relay mod. The truck has run very well! In fact I averaged 15.71 MPG on my way down to LA with about a 2500 pound payload and running 34" tires with 4.56 gears at b65 mph with NO over drive! I cannot wait untill I get my OD trans installed. I bet I will come close if not go over that 20 mpg mark! The Turbo will gain me a net of about 20% better fuel economy on top of that.

I have an m1028 as well. I love the simplicity of it. Mine is currently on 37" Super Swamper Radials with a 6" lift. I have similar plans for mine as well. I want to put an ARE DUC top on, as well as new aftermarket bumpers with winches front and rear. Something to consider is wiring in a manual glow plug switch and crossover steering. I currently have a spacer on my steering and it can bind when weight is on the front tires.
