My plan is to pick up a civi passenger side fuel tank from LMC.

To get your mind off the hubs for a minute let’s talk fuel tanks….. Don’t bother going the the LMC tank route. There are much better options out there besides LMC. The LMC tank is, by no surprise, a cheap Taiwanese piece of tin bent around to resemble a fuel tank with only a mere sprinkle of a rust inhibiting spray over them. Order a fuel tank from Napa, they are really nice galvanized tanks made in Canada by Spectra. By the time you figure in LMC’s freight charges you will probably find the Napa tank is the same cost for a higher quality fuel tank. It looks like the Napa part number for a 20 gallon tank is STP GM1B and new tank straps are part number STP FG05K

I have a LMC tank on the LH side of my K10 and just added a new Napa tank on the RH side. WOW! The difference between the two in material quality and metal thickness was astounding. I am actually replacing the 5 year old LMC tank on the LH side with a new Napa tank this week as well just because I was so impressed with the Napa tank I just put in the RH side.

This is a LMC tank as I was installing it during the 8.1L swap in 2008. It is paper thin and only has a paint type material sprayed on it for corrosion protection

This is a terrible picture of the high quality Spectra tank from Napa I just installed on the RH side. Nicely galvanized made by our good neighbors to the North. Those canuk tanks are nice, eh!

Sorry to hear about the Yukon hubs. I’ve had nothing but great luck with ORD and Randy’s Ring and Pinion. I am sure they will get it figured out. I’ve also had great luck with the Superwinch D44 hubs on my K10 in the past as well as the Superwinch D60 hubs that are on it now but I don’t believe Superwinch offers them in 35 spline. Mine are only 30 spline.

Thanks everyone. I have moved on.

LARRY,
Thank you for the tip! I hate cheap parts (or even really expensive parts that don't work;). I will head over to Spectra web site and take a look. I will also stop by my local NAPA shop. I do want to replace my current fuel tank as it is over 27 years old and I'm sure has a layer of crud inside of it.

OK for my Fellow Bow Tie Guys, here is what I have found for a rear tank and side tank. Thanks to "LARRY" for pointing me in the right direction. You can also order these from NAPA. I just wanted to give you all an idea of the costs. This does not include everything you need to change from which tank you use.

This is a Suburban 40 gallon replacement rear tank.

NOW BEFORE YOU ORDER ANYTHING THAT YOU READ WOULD WORK BY SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET (ME) YOU SHOULD ALWAYS VERIFY PART NUMBERS OR DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE PURCHASING.

Good deal, glad to help out. BTW, the lock ring and o-ring are included with the Sectra tank as well as sending unit. No need to buy those separate. I thought the same thing you did and ended up with 3 sets of lock rings and o-rings.

Here is the tank selector valve I will use. This is "Old School" tech that works. I will need two for my three tanks.

I will need to install two fuel gauges and wire them up from the sender units ect. The next items I need to locate are two fuel doors. I plan to cut them out of two Chevy trucks with the same style (era) as mine. Two fuel doors on the left and One on the right for the side saddle. This will give me approximately 85 gallons when capped off.

I ended up getting something along the lines of this deck filler for my 20 gal passenger tank. It will hopefully work out with the M1010 box since it's square. Might be something to look at if you don't want to do a bunch of cutting and just want one hole.

That may be the easiest way to go. What I would like to do is cut out two mid 80s Chevy fuel doors and assemblies off of two beds and weld them on in the appropriate place on my bed. It would look factory. BUT this route would save a lot of time! Do you have a link? I also like the key!

Today I had a bit of time to search the internet for a salvage yard in my area. I found one and went on down. Less than $14 and 30 minutes I have these little gems!

The plan is to cut the panel true. Then Flange the 4 sides and cut a slightly smaller square out of the side of the truck mirrored to the other side. I will then slide the fuel door up from behind and rivet it into place. I know some people wont like it but its quick, easy and strong. Plus it will have that Industrial look........ I'm not to worried as the truck has dents and scratches on it so this wont take anything away from it. Also, its not a SHOW and NO GO truck. Its my expedition rig. Just adding one side saddle tank will double my current range (40 gallons). Adding the 3rd tank (another 40 gallons) will give me 80 gallons plus what is in the fuel fill nozzles and lines should be an extra 3 to 5 gallons. That will net me a possible 83 to 85 gallons.

That will be nice to have that much fuel. My mileage dropped down to about 11 when i put my truck up on 37's. 20 gallons just isn't enough!

Hey STEVO-MT,
How deep is the spacer on the rear? Looks like you are running Dually hubs up front. How is the clearance of the front fenders when your all crossed up?
