question about factory dual batteries 2006 F350 diesel
My truck is factory equipped with dual batteries. I can not find anywhere on the web that explains how they are connected so I imagine that they are not "managed" in any way.
I'd like to wire up my winch. I'm not convinced that its a great idea to hook both the positive and negative winch cables onto just one battery... anybody have any ideas?

The batteries are constantly wired together in the diesel ford trucks. When you hook the winch wires to either battery, both batteries will power the winch.

Cool thanks for the info. I'm concerned that a massive draw on one battery will overload the wiring connecting them together when the load equalizes between them. Any insight?

With the truck running I believe your Alt. Will be doing the brunt of the work and dipping into the battery when it needs to. I would think the draw of the winch wouldn't be to taxing on the system considering the draw the starter takes.

Thats a good point I didnt consider the draw of the starter. Is that wired with just one positive lead from one battery? I could go check but its awfully dark outside...

As already mentioned, the batteries are wired in parallel, so they should share the load. I always run the engine when using the winch so as to avoid a heavy drain on my starter batteries. In the perfect world, I'd have a separate bank of isolated batteries for the winch and other accessories, but there's only so much room under the hood.
