I bought a book called Outdoor Navigation with GPS by Stephen Hinch, which I thought was really good. Although the title implies that it's dedicated solely to navigating with an electronic GPS device, it has a many pages dedicated to 1) general navigation principles, and 2) how to apply these principles to navigating with a compass. Of course the majority of the book is dedicated to GPS, but there's plenty of information on map-and-compass navigation. It's available for less than $12 on Amazon (link)

"We all dream of a world filled with sunshine, peace, and happiness. The problem is that half the people think this sounds like a wonderful place to live...while the other half think it sounds like a wonderful place to pillage."
