1990 K5 Blazer Build

Well i just picked up a 1990 chevy k5 blazer. Used to be a plow truck, has 112,000 mile. Got the truck and the plow for 800 bucks from the body shop i work at and they are letting me put half my paycheck towards it every week until it is paid off, so i still have some cash to fix it up, it has been sitting for 3 years. Put a battery in it and it fired right up. runs awesome this weekend i will be changing the fluids and cleaning it. They also gave me a set of 4 bfg 33 inch all terrains that they were going to through out. It is rusty, but it drives great, trans is good, and brakes are awesome. I cut out the rusted exhaust and cat tonight, started to install a flowmaster 40 series should be done with that tomorow.

Plans:
Cb
Fix the rockers and hole in the floor/filler neck and passenger seat mount.
Truck bed coat it and camoflage it
Re order the procomp wheels
Hook up plow
Build a tire carrier
mount wheels/tires
Replace throttle body with a rebuilt one
eventually lift it

Good find. You can pick up cheap CB on eBay for around $10-20 . I've gotten 5 CB's for less than $100 this year.all work great. I've resold 3 of them smd made lots of extra money.

Good deal on the Blazer, I have a soft spot for full size Blazers...

Are you sure it's a 1990. It looks like it has the older grill/head light setup.

The snow plow & lifting are countering each other I feel

nice project truck at a fair price

look forward to seeing what you do with her

not lifting it anytime soon, maybe just a 2 inch eventually. along with all the rust on the body, apparently the oil pan had a nice sized rust hole in it. this morning i was greaseing things up under it and fixing the 4wd shifting mechanism, and there was no oil leak, about 5 hour later the engine was 2.5-3 quarts low oil oil and the front axle was covered in it. only drove it like 15 miles but it has developed a bad knock an wont stay running or run right. My boss who is a master mechanic thinks it may just need rod bearings so we will drop the pan this week and see. hope its not too bad. the oil leak just developed today so i hope it will be alright.

That's the "cheap" grille that was used on blazers and crew cabs from '89-91. I converted my '82 to that grille a looong time ago. I have the grille hanging on my garage wall in loving memory of that truck. :) Nice blazer!!! Sorry about your bad engine luck... Hopefully the hole in the oil pan isn't related to the knock...

It does have bad oil leak from the pan, however yesterday i started it up and there is no more thunking. The throttle body is pretty messed up though, was rebuilt and is missing a few parts so im replacing hat now as well as the oil pan and it should be fine.

Looks like you got a smokin:Wow1:deal on that blazer Nathaniel. At that price and with the good pay off options, you can have lots of time and money to fix that truck up just right. Please keep us posted with LOTS of pics, we love pics...:)

Will Do, picking up the plow form work today i hope, and planning on starting the paint and truck bed coating this weekend. also going to be pulling the two bucket seat up front to replace with a cloth 40/20/40 bench out of a 2000 silverado as well as to fix the floor and rockers. Will then be building a shelving unit in the rear to house all of my tools. Getting the wheels i ordered for my tb in from procomp next week, they have the 6x5.5 bolt patern so they should fit the blazer fine. Anyone know if 4 inch backspacing works on these? if not, i will have to get some spacers. I have 295 width tires and i ordered 16x8 rims, this didnt work out very well when i went to mount them so i am in the process of exchanging them for 16x7's

Well got the blazer painted yesterday. Did two coats of rolled on Rustoleum truck bed coating and used Krylon Ultra flat camouflage paint for it. Turned out very good, will get some pics in the sun once i get my new throttle body.

Well I figured out the issue i think, the fuel pump is bad, only giving 7 psi max fuel pressure, installing a new pump this sunday and she should be up and running. Also picked up a bench seat for it out of a truck, and will be redoing the pass floor and installing the bench sometime in the next few weeks.

Finally got the Blazer going again, The problem was that the rubber line connecting the pump to the sending unit was completely disntigrated, easy fix and now she runs perfect! Got the wheels and tires mounted up as well here are some pics

Well now that it is running and the exterior has been taken care of I have to build the interior. I just got a bench seat out of a truck, and since the trucks have a higher floor because of the gas tank, i need to find a way to mount the seat up, thinking I will use the bases for the bucket seats as of right now. Before i can do the seat i will be cutting out and replacing the pass side floor and patching the drivers side floor, both are pretty rotted out, the pass seat mount are rusted through, but surprisingly, that is the only rusty area on the truck so nothing else has to be cut out. After the seat is installed, I will be building a tool storage shelf as well as parts storage. Im going to do a wooden floor in the rear as the floor is pretty banged up, but once its finished it will be nice and hopefully very useful. Pics will be posted when i cut out the floor.
