My Off-road camper build

Hi ,

I started this build , wanting a camper that suited me .
I have used a Land-cruiser Ute chassis as my base .
From there , everything is full alloy , looking at keeping the weight down to the minimum .
Total length is 4.5mtrs , height is 2.1mtrs , width 1.9mtrs .
It will have a king size bed permanently made up , a Hannibal rooftop tent for the kids up top ( no canvas on the ground ) , a Hannibal style awning on both side and at the rear of the camper , 1.2mtr long kitchen / pantry on slides , a 110 liter fridge on slide , a 2 kva genset , 150 liter water carry capicty , elect water pressure pump , 2 x 120 amp AGM batteries , sitting on 285/75/16 BFG KM2's , lots of storage , we are pressurizing the main cabin to prevent any dust entry , 120amp solar set up .

Getting there slowly , hopefully another couple of weeks part-time and it will be done .

Always interesting to compare the Aussie-builds with those in the states. Your's are typically larger and have more tent space. Definitely some thorough kitchens. Looks great.

We mounted a 'Hannibal' roof-top tent yesterday .
Great tent , problem that I am having is at the height that the tent base is at , it makes it quite difficult to unzip and to do the buckles .
I am now having second thoughts on the roof-top , seriously considering removing it and buying a ' 30 second OZ tent ' .Doing this would be quick , give me an awning and if I enclose it , would give me a privacy area as well .

First off..

I really hate you because you have a Ute...damn you!



but I really like you, because you built a totally beautiful trailer. The workmanship is remarkable.

I have my tent on top, and although it's a huge pain in the *** to put up and take down...I really dig the cool factor...big kid I guess. I bring along an aluminum fold up horse to carry around and set up with.

Welcome to Expo, keep the updates rolling in, and also finished weights would be nice..

Thanks for that Pat ... coming from someone who has built a few trailers , cheers .

To be honest , you r trailer was the start of my concept of building what I wanted in a trailer .

We solved the problem today , we turned the roof-top tent around so it opened over the draw-bar , that gave me the ability to walk around the outside of the camper and undo the buckles and zips with eze .
In doing that , it allowed me to do a full awning on both sides and across the back of the camper .We are going to build an awning similar to this one http://www.supapeg.com.au/product_in...roducts_id=169 , just a bit more heavy-duty .
We built the doors x2 ,the top hatch and the rear hatch , tomorrow we have to do the steps on the rear hatch .

Another few days pass , a few more things done .
We got the main doors built and hung , the top hatch door built and hung , the rear hatch / access door built and hung , the steps on the hatch door done , today it will be the last of the doors to be built for the small storage box's at the rear of the camper .

Tomorrow the awning frame will be built and positioned / mounted .

Slowly starting to take shape .
Still trying to chase a set of 35's for it ... a bit more clearance .

I managed to turn the rooftop tent around today , it worked out alot better this way .
We also got all the fab work on the awning arms done and mounted . Similar to a 'Hannibal's' design , just a bit bigger and beefier .
We ended up getting 2.6mtrs on both sides and across the rear of the camper for shade .I will get some zip on sides made to enclose for privacy .
Hopefully all the fab work will be done by next weekend , just have the water-tank and some toolbox's to be made and that's it .
